May has decided to rear its ugly head. What have you been listening to? Have you been listening to political opponents insult each other like school children? Have you been listening to something new? Or are you stuck on an old favorite? Let us know. Genre and Era are wide open.

I've listened to a good amount of stuff during April, but currently I am just fixated/addicted/held hostage by Bottomless Pit.

Every single track on that album is just 10/10 headbang material. Hot Head itself was interesting when it was first released, but it seemed closer to stuff like Death Grips 2.0, which was more of a statement rather than an actual song in the context of Jenny Death.

Dear lord though was that misleading. I Keep Giving Bad People Good Ideas, Hot Head, Spikes, Eh, Bubbles Buried In This Jungle, BB poison, Ring A Bell, 8080808 and Bottomless Pit are instant earworms and they go in hard; blaring guitars, synthesizers, biting lyrics, amazing drum work... I just can't describe it.

It feels like a return to form for Death Grips whilst at the same time sounding completely fresh. If Jenny Death was more of a fan album but it still retained their difficult, almost lumbering style at times, Bottomless Pit is like the ultra aggressive wolf made out of 3 parts Money Store, 1 part Exmilitary and 2 parts Jenny Death.

Even the songs that don't grab me immediately are interesting and get more enjoyable over time, like Houdini, Warping, Trash and Three Bedrooms in a Good Neighbourhood.

Simply put, it's a great time to be a Death Grips fan right now. I'll definitely get the CD for this and I would kill to be able to listen to this on Vinyl.

I've been listening to the same little tune over and over the last few days. Must have easily been over a thousand times so far.
Been reading a really emotional story over and over whilst listening to that tune. There have been a lot of tears while doing so.

Been listening to a lot of the old Dischord Records stuff lately. Lots of good stuff there:s/

Have also been listening to a fair amount of the old Chicago hardcore scene, because there is a ton of awesome shit there.

And this weekend, I have been on a bit of a pagan black metal kick, for some reason.

And finally, just a lot of jangle pop all throughout the past four weeks. Really been getting into the genre lately, and I can't get enough of the stuff. XD

Well I listened to these for the first time in years.
I'd nearly forgotten how much I liked VNV Nation.

Shiina Ringo has become my favorite artist of all time from her solo stuff to her band, Tokyo Jihen. I'm totally a classic rock guy but there is something very special about Shiina. To me, her band, modernized classic rock with probably the best keyboards and bass heard since the classic rock era along strong instrument play all around. Her solo stuff is just as amazing utilizing pretty much every instrument as she plays with an orchestra as seen in the video below.

Someone on a reddit thread I made introduced me to VHS Glitch, as well as a whole playlist of similar 80s-inspired synth and man have I been seriously getting into it! I'm not usually one for synth-based stuff but yeah, recently I've found myself enjoying some chillstep when I'm unwinding at the end of a night and this 80s-esque retro wave is just all the sounds I want in general, so that's cool.

I've slowly realized over the years the closest genre my taste in music reaches is 'fan-made music'. Or music that's been in animated things and I've wanted to track down.

...granted, thanks to Rick and Morty, that 'Chaos Chaos' song is now also incredibly sad for me.

A post in which Mystery Skulls got a mention
Have you seen the animated videos for "Freaking Out" and "Ghost"? Made by a crew with no official ties to the band, just riffing on doing some world-building loosely based on the lyrics, and damn good overall I would say.

OT: Heard about a musician called Emilie Autumn recently and decided to check her out. Listened to this album and mostly loved it. I don't have much of a frame of reference for comparison, I guess the vocals and tone are similar to Coheed and Cambria except it's actually a woman and not just a guy who sounds kinda like a woman. The album title sets a theme that the music follows pretty well, I'd recommend giving it a try at least.
Tried to listen to another album of hers (Enchanted), but got bored around 20 minutes in and gave up.

I'm just going to stick to my latest obsession:

[spoiler-GEMS]

[/spoiler]

The first is stuck in my head, the second appears to be their most popular song.

This energetic, summery tune!

Also, a bit of Passion Pit again. Highly recommend this band if you're into this type of music.

And, finally, one of my favorite songs of all time. Can't explain why.
