We were hoping to do it this year, but money was an issue and it just kept getting put off. (Not to mention, neither of us really knows much about getting engaged or weddings).
Getting engaged is straightforward and free, you just agree you're going to get married at some unspecified point in the future (you may or may not tell other people, but then there's there whole nonsense of whether you need a ring, etc. - you don't, but some people like them). Getting married is unnecessarily expensive, though I understand not as expensive as getting divorced, so don't do that.
Well we kind of agreed to get married at an unspecified time in the future like 4 years ago but we don't really consider ourselves engaged.
The ring thing is the stupid thing, and the thing we don't know much about.
Like... do you only wear your engagement ring until you get married? Seems a waste of money, really. Do men wear engagement rings?
They should just make these things clear.

Neither of us is keen on the whole down-on-one-knee thing either, so we'll probably skip that all together.

The engagement ring is worn after the marriage as well. Traditionally it's just the woman that wears an engagement ring.

Buying an engagement ring can be quite frustrating too, more than a few rather rude salesman talked themselves out of a sale when I went to buy one, because they somehow decided I couldn't afford it.

Mrs B2 used to wear her engagement ring and her wedding ring together, though she stopped wearing the former when one of the stones fell out - it didn't affect our marital status. I didn't have an engagement ring and I don't wear a wedding ring because I find rings irritating. Also, I lost mine and can't be trusted with another - that was about seven years ago and, as far as I know, we're still married. I've concluded that the ring isn't that important.

Being engaged isn't really anything official AFAIK, it's a nice-to-have. It's like saying you're in a super-serious relationship and you'd like to get married. Some people get engaged with no intention of marriage because it's the closest thing you can do without buying into the concept and the legal issues it involves).

If you tell other people you're engaged they'll expect a ring, but you can always tell them to roll it up nice and tight.

Its you and yours getting married, its really up to you two how you do it. Could just go to a judge (or Vegas) and just get it done for the legal aspect and forgo all the expenses.

I want to get married one day, but I value the sentiments more than the expenses. Sure, Id like a guy to propose to me all special (privately though) but I dont want alot of money spent on a single party and some jewelry that could be put to our actual futures together.

My friends and I decided to visit Europe this year. I've already found free accommodation in Rome at https://swap-house.com/host/italy/rome/ so we decided to start our trip from Italy. I heard Italians are friendly people. Hope this year will be unforgettable.

Try to eat healthier and not go out to eat as often.
(This goal should also translate well into weight loss and financial gain hopefully.)

Finish drawing this book I'm working on. I only have four pages left to go but damn are they time consuming.

Pursue more creative projects for myself, rather than just for customers.

Take better care of myself in general and my own health and happiness. I really let that ball drop during the better part of last year. I did too much for other people, had issues saying no and now I just feel tired, anxious and lost.

Resolution: Finally start learning how to write computer code so I can get started on a game development career.

Hope: For Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown to live up to my expectations. Considering that they're having it be Osea vs. Erusea, and bringing back a lot of the developers from the PS2-era AC games, I expect it to be damned good.

Wishes: For Nintendo to get their heads out of their back ends and make a proper console on par with things like the PS4 Pro or the XBox Scorpio. Preferably, it will also come with games like F-Zero, Wave Race and 1080 as launch titles. Oh, and for Disney to agree to an HD remake of the old Star Wars: Rogue Squadron games.

The Switch was the last console Satoru Iwata[footnote]RIP[/footnote] was involved with. You might find Nintendo taking a different approach in upcoming years. I don't know what that direction will be, but if you're looking for some hope, there you go.

That we manage to somehow avoid Armageddon. That the 2nd holocaust doesn't happen.
Good news, then: Armageddon is really, REALLY unlikely. As to the "2nd holocaust", well, if Chechnya, Srbrenica, Rwanda, Cambodia, Guatemala, pretty much the entire post-war history of North Korea and pretty anything involving Kurdish people anywhere don't qualify, then I can't fathom what would.

For more and more people to turn against Trump. And for me to get more rare sweets and cookies for my collection.
That kind of thinking is sure to unite the cripplinginly divided nation!

Hate to burst your bubble, but the only people who are still against Trump are the ones who were dead-set against him from the beginning. He's done more in two weeks than most presidents have done in their entire terms. Either way, even if you hate him (sounds like you do) welcome to the next 4 years.

OT: I'd like to expand my collection of The Walking Dead Comics. And learn Japanese.

Honestly, the start of 2017 was pretty good (fiscally) ... back in 2016 I invested pretty heavily into AGL and so far just divesting myself of those shares I've made about 36k in naked profit. Some of my other buy ins haven't performed so well but I bought heavily into one at IPO and I didn't put so much money that it hurts.

I think if I can ride some of thr good luck train well into 2017 I think I might be able to make a decent gains over expenses and CGT at the EOFY 16-17, and given I moved a lot of money about my portfolio last year I'm quietly optimistic I've set myself up reasonably well. Academic wise my plan hasn't change ... get 7 degrees by 2026.

It all got a bit hairy in retrospect however, and if it wasn't for some good advice and far better than expected performance of various companies I would only have broken even or gone backwards, over what has been a fairly disastrous 2016. So I owe my broker a big kiss on the cheek.

So maybe I should make it a resolution to buy him a present?

Basically I'm quietly hoping Trump can just close his mouth ... stop running his mouth about everything and anything, and whether the new wave of Brexit spectreing doesn't begin to paint a poor picture of financial markets from now till forever.

On the emotional/social front I'm not looking for love or any of that nonsense. But I wouldn't mind making a few new friends? Oh, and to play more Netrunner... but that's a given. Can't get enough of something you love.

----------

Beyond that the simple goal is maintain a middle class income without having to work, that can afford my low income lifestyle to which I'm accustomed, all to add to my bottom line. Same strategy as always. I was thinking of getting a bit of work on the side... but at this point in my life I'd only want to be a museum or gallery archivist. Being an archivist is awesome. Artificially dry storage facilities that burn your throat, sorting out ancient relics of historical significance and researching objects in the mounting importance of historiography ... msintaining the fastidious standards congruent to the goal of preserving the past *forever*, and making it eternally accessible ... it's noble, honest work.

Though I was thinking of studying nights and doing fashion and design and patternmaking courses at a technical college while I continue to study. I love sewing. And if the potentiality exists that I can help make the world look more like a chaotically organised fruit stand with contrasting pastel colours and odd shapes ... the better.
