Final Fantasy games are well known for a reason. They put the turn based RPG game on the map and are loved by millions of people world wide. But What I want to know is what are your Top 3 Favorite Final Fantasy's and why?

Mine are

1. FF IV

2. FF XIII

3. FF VII

I Loved FF IV because it was the first to include the ATB, Active Time Battle System, and had such a rich world with memorable characters and a storyline that was gripping and exciting. And not to mention the difficulty was hard enough to give you a Challenge but still not enough to make you want to stop playing it.

I just started playing FF XIII a week ago and can't stop playing it. With the new battle system that keeps you in the action, the AMAZING GRAPHICS, great soundtrack, and the crystarium it might be one of the best Final Fantasy's ever! It feels like they took the best parts of FF VII, FF X, and FF XII and put them together and it really works well.

And Last but not least there is FF VII, the game that almost every person who owns a Final Fantasy has played and loved. There is nothing that can't be said about FF VII that hasn't been said before. It is just awesome.

FF VII, X, and XII, because those are the only non-spin-off FF games I've played.

I'll borrow XIII as soon as I can.

Tactics, FFVI, aaaand...the fourth one maybe? Those two are the only ones that really stand out to me.

1. FFXII - loved the story, loved the battlesystem, loved the levelling system, loved the music. It's the game I've played longest. Every few months I start playing it again.

2. FFXIII - same thing really, only a bit too linear and the story took some time to get going.

3. FFX - I didn't like the battlesystem as much, but loved the characters and story.

I don't know, I've played most of the older ones, but didn't really like them. It isn't the aging graphics, but I just couldn't get into them. Maybe I should try playing them again.

VII
It's got great characters, a compelling story, and it's very endearing in its simplicity. It's my favourite game of all time and looks poised to stay that way for a long, long time.

Tactics
I'm a sucker for a good turn-based strategy and this is the best of the best in my opinion. The story is incredible, the classes and ability hunting work perfectly, and nothing beats the satisfaction of thiefing every item from an enemy soldier before sticking him in the face. Also: Stone fight!

IX
This game was all-around incredible. Fantastic story, hilarious characters, retro as hell, and the card game is just the delicious icing on the cake. Plus, of all the games, this one has the best boss battles (which is saying something).

Final Fantasy X - First PS2 game I ever played. Still makes me feel wonderful when playing it.

Final Fantasy VI - Quite a good look back at older games. Still fun to play.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - A good change from normal Final Fantasy games. Still a lot of fun.

IX, because apart from the final boss fail, it is perfect.

VIII, because it was my first and thus, holds a special place in my heart.

X-2 (yes, I'm serious), because it never fails to cheer me up.

1) FFVI - Some of the best story, and characters in a game.
2) FFIX - Already mentioned, but the nostalgia factor scores extra points.
3) FF Tactics - Because nothing beats throwing rocks at chocobos.

1) FF VII. I just loved it to bits, the characters, the story and materia remains my favorite "magic" system of all final fantasies to date.
2) FF III. The DS version specifically. I'm not sure what got me hooked, but it's charm, fun combat. Variation on the classes, admitedly, some were terrible, but they all had their own "thing" going on. I loved the little costumes, too!
3) FF VI. An awesome vilan, solid gameplay and just... Fun, not sure what else I can add to that.

1: Final Fantasy IX
Because I like green forests and medieval-style castles better than futuristic wastelands any day. And because Zidane is a great protagonist.

2: Final Fantasy VII
This is the game that first introduced me to the Final Fantasy series, not to mention RPGs in general. It blew my mind in ways I can't even begin to describe.

3: Final Fantasy VI (AKA III / The one with Kefka in it.)
A diverse, intricate and fast-paced story combined with an impressive cast of characters, a huge world to explore, plenty of time to explore it - what's not to like?

Really? I'm genuinely surprised by this, because I've only ever seen people rage about it. "It's too ~girly~! It's not as deep and serious as X! Etc."
I like your corner of the internet more :p

VI
VII
X
in that order

VI had branching storylines, a host of belivable characters, a combat sytem that was fun rather than irritating, and a plot that had very little teenage angst and was actually surprisingly good.

VII had a massive world to explore with so many sidequests I'm almost sure its nearly impossible to do them all in one run, as well as a decent story...that just kept going.

X...eh no other FF title seemed better for the third spot

1) FF IV

Paladins. I love Paladins. All in all, the characters were great. It also has the lunar whale - a giant, robotic, space-faring whale that flies to the moon to fight the moon badguys.

2) FF VI

Probably my favorite final fantasy world. Excellent characters with deep backstories. Also, the world kinda gets completely annihilated halfway through. That's pretty cool.

3) FF VIII

I probably would have put IX here but I never actually finished it. I liked the plot, setting, characters (for the most part), and summons in this game. Kinda lost steam by the time I got to the moon/space part tho.

1 - FFVII (great despite being unable to finish it - dam you memory card re-format)
2 - FFX (good battle system, nice storyline and cinematics)
3 - FFI (option to pick all four characters class and a fun portable game for holidays)

VII
The game I've spent most time with and I feel like there's always something to do. Also gets my "Best story of all time" award.

IX
Really refreshing world at least if you play it after VII. A great story and nearing the end there is twist after twist. And don't get me started with the soundtrack.

VIII
I admit it. I'm an insanely huge FF fan and I've only finished two FF games. Oh the shame. Though I've played FFVIII till 3rd CD and this game also has a great story. Only problem for me is that I don't really like "Drawing" spells from monsters. Ok, it made beating Diablos pretty easy. :)

Heres my top 3 in no real order

1.) IX

Just reminded me of a simpler time, when RPGs were about fantasy, romance, plot twists, and just good writing that could keep anyone of any age interested in the story.

2.) X-2

The Charlie's Angels of Final Fantasy, and who doesn't like Charlie's Angels? That and it was also fun to play with its light hearted story that became a little more serious towards the end

3.) I

Changing the name of my characters is huge for me. And I also like giving them back stories and things. Changing appearances is also critical. RPGs also need interesting stories that take you to interesting locales with amazing cities or towers or dungeons, not just the same location over and over again.

Notable-mention goes to IV, V, and VI, but I was never able to finish them :p

1- FFIX
2- Crisis Core
3- FFX

9 was the first FF game I ever owned myself and to this day it is still my favorite of the series. The characters, setting, and soundtrack were amazing, Kuja/Garland were awesome villians, and through the graphics and sound all of it just seemed to immerse you in that world (and I'm a sucker for genetic experimentation plots...)

Crisis Core. Of all the FFVII games, this was probably one of my favorites. Plot-wise I feel it had some of the most depth without making people go "w-wait WHAT!?" (to this day FFVII's story has bits that elude me) and the characters were all presented in a great fashion. I didn't mind the battle system and the sound was pretty good for the most part. For being a handheld game it held up well against the console-bound predecessors.

FFX. Let me start off by saying I love most of the soundtrack, from the dungeons to the boss music to the character themes and environments the orchestration was beautiful. The characters were believeable and likeable even if they had their moments where I was like "okay, just shut the hell up and let me move on already" and the storyline was.. interesting to say the least. Definitely one of the last good FF games with some intense boss fights (damn Evrae and Seymour Flux to the deepest level of my personal hell.)
