Every critic's got their top 5 list for this year. Now let's put the control to gamers. What were your top 5 games of this year and why?
My top 5:
#5: Kirby's Epic Yarn: I loved the art style of the game. It was different, and a smart move for the Nintendo Wii. It warmed my heart in a sea of shooters and brown.
#4: Dead Rising 2: Everything that I hated about Dead Rising was resolved in the sequel. The added element of creating new custom weapons was a welcome changed. Improved survivor AI made the grind to the level cap a more enjoyable experience.
#3: Red Dead Redemption/Undead Nightmare: A tie between a standalone game and its DLC?! Well both are just so damn fantastic. I've always been a fan of Rockstar's storytelling since GTA Vice City. These two games I feel are the culmination of years of experience in crafting the art of story telling. Gameplay very fun as well. Despite the wealth of random side quests I never felt overwhelmed like in GTAIV. A fine balance between gameplay and narration. Add to that one of the best zombie games since Left For Dead 2, and that's a win in my book.
#2: Starcraft II: *Fanboy alert* I've waited 12 damn long years for this game, and the wait was well worth it. The campaign was brilliant added quite a depth to the story of Jim Raynor. It makes me can't wait for Heart of the Swarm. Add to that a well balanced mutliplayer and a better ladder system it makes me glad to be a Blizzard fan.
#1 Mass Effect 2: This game was perfect enough said, but seriously what's not to like about Bioware's epic space opera. Shepard's quest to save mankind against the reapers took me through twist and turns and real tough choices (favorite mission is "A House Divided") that makes you seriously think how your choices will affect Mass Effect 3. Let's not forget a redesigned combat system that works and is pretty fun. Let's not forget the fantastic DLC that was released for the game as well. What does this mean? Well Mass Effect 2 is my pick for best game of 2010!
