I liked Muse before they got involved with America and started being crappy.

What bands did you like while they were still obscure?

Nightwish was cool at my school for a little while after Dark Passion Play came out. I like them before that.

Uhm... I guess Krypteria and Voltaire count. I think they're still techincally obscure.

I'm not so sure about Epica, but it very well might count.

Says before cool, ie before they are mainstream. Not saying when they still were or anything.

The question isn't what bands you like before they were lame, it's bands you liked before they were widely accepted as being popular. I just use the Muse example cause that's the only one for me and as soon as they became popular they started releasing shit stuff. But that's just with Muse. I'm sure other bands are still good even when they go mainstream. Aphex twin was.

Radiohead. Actually, I don't think Radiohead are mainstream yet. In that case it would have to be Muse.

Monty's Fan Club (now called Monty are I), Fenix Texas, Tsunami Bomb, Dresden Dolls, those are the ones that come to mind

muse..I like Nightwish still because though they are pretty popular in europe, the people over here have never heard of them. (their new album is kind of bad though) :(

I like a lot of obscure bands, but they haven't become "like oh mah gawd" popular yet, all the bands that aren't obscure, I missed their days of obscurity. It's a shame really.

Well, let's get this straight firstly - obscure cool.

Because of my work I get sent pre-release copies of things. I get to hear most stuff before it comes out, so there's not much point me making a list because it would include... well, everything that I liked. Once an artist does actually come out I'm usually blissfully unaware of how popular it is unless it's something that my label is shifting the units for, so I don't really even become aware of any sort of "other people like it therefore it's not cool anymore" zone. These forums are probably the closest thing I have to gauging that kind of response, I know if something that I haven't heard of collects a lot of hate threads here it must be musically brilliant and I then make a point of going out and listening to it immediately. I'm very rarely disappointed.

Probably In Flames.

Not that I don't like their new work (well ok, maybe I don't), just prefer their older stuff.

Er, Radiohead are one of the biggest rock bands in the world right now.

Most of the stuff I listen to is nowhere near mainstream...

I think the one I got into after they were cool and right before they started their upswing into being cool again is the New York Dolls. They were awesome in the '70s, and they started being awesome again around 2007. So yeah.
