I'm always looking for new great books to read so if you have any recommendations along those lines to I'll take them but I was just wondering what was the first fantasy book you read that made you say "hey, I need to read these more often?"

(BTW: I spent some time searching for a similar thread so if one already exists I appologize.)

I forgot, for me it was The City of Splendor by Ed Greenwood.

One of those choose your own adventure books.

Think it was Island of the Lizard King or something.

It wasn't really a book but a movie called "The Dark Crystal" directed by Jim Henson. But to answer the OT I would have to say "The Wizard of Oz". Not only is it a clever satire of politics back in the day but ts something I would want my grandchildren's grandchildren to read. The world of Oz is just so...Well its OZ

I think when I was around seven, I started reading the Redwall series. I loved it so much, and because it was the thickest book I had read, I just started picking up the thickest books I could find to read, i.e. Harry Potter and The Hobbit.

Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind.

Not only did it ignite my love for reading, but also started my love for fantasy and philosophy.

Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda. Not the best method though it took me a week to finish them all.

Lord of the Ring and The Hobbit.
My father read it to us when I was four or five years old.
That scene with the Barrow Wights is still burnt into my memory...
I love it.

Read a D&D monster guide when I was around 11, my parents didn't want to buy it for me, and years later got diablo, that's what actually got me into the fantasy genre. God bless game developers :)

Golem in the Gears by Piers Anthony. I always hated reading as a kid, but then my sister forced me to read it when I was in like, 1st Grade. Haven't stopped reading since. Piers Anthony is still a huge favorite of mine.

Lloyd Alexander's "Prydan Chronicles" was the first fantasy series I "really" read. I actually read these ones prior to "The Hobbit".
