Inspired by this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.872030-Poll-Would-you-be-comfortable-killing-your-countrys-military-in-a-game?page=1] thread. I thought it would be interesting to get some answer to this question, because I hypothesize that most posters would be more comfortable with fighting a foreign country that they've had little or no dealings with in the past.

Or would you betray the Rodina???

It's not looking good for the Americanskys.

It's still not looking good for the Americanskys.

Whoever is programmed to shoot back at me. I care about the gameplay, story comes after that.

Canadians. Those northern bastards have had it easy for to long. Time for some hardships. Just imagining all the "eh"s and "sorry"s is making me want to play it.[footnote]The Escapist takes nearly everything literally, better put a disclaimer. This is a joke.[/footnote]

Like I said in the earlier thread, I would be very much at ease killing my country's military forces.

Hm...Well, if the country is invading the U.S., it wouldn't matter to me--unless the U.S. was so corrupted in the game that it needed to be invaded, in which case I'm playing on the wrong side.

Like someone else said, I don't really care so long as the gameplay is solid and fun. To the point though, I would like to fight against the US. It would be awesome to play a game wherein the US just got so huge and out of control that the world united against us. The best part is that American citizens who speak out about how the Government has gone off the deep end will automatically be labeled as traitors and to death camps if not killed outright.

As long as it makes sense, I couldn't give a toss who I'm shooting at.

Hell, give me the entire British army to gun down and, as long as there's a tangible reason, I wouldn't care.

China, Iran, North Korea, US in a dystopian story. I'd dig Russia too if they could have a good plot and add some good ol' Cold War references.

I wouldn't mind fighting the US.
Just to see USA on the receiving end for once, and see how it goes when somebody else has the superior tech and overwhelming might.

The USA.

Like, say, a game where you play as the Vietcong? I'd be all over that shit.

Tired of military games where you're justing stomping on the underdog. No such qualms here!

I loved how specific you are!

Look, depending of the story i could actually shoot at an army comprised of budhist monks.

What i would prefer? Don't know, the argentinians would be fun? :p Portugal as well, if only because the accent is hilarious, maybe the spanish one too.

Any country that made sense by the context of the game.

North Korea could be a good enemy, just not invading the US. Being a soldier stationed at the edge of the Korean DMZ as the Korean War reignited could be a very interesting game.

The USA's because the extreme outrage it would cause would be pretty hilarious.

Make them extremely stereotypical too, riding in on tanks with naked ladies painted on them and crotch-mounted rocket launchers with corporate logos spraypainted everywhere. The final boss is a titanic Ronald McDonald firing exploding fries.

Actually this sounds amazing.

Austria and Australia. And the USA.
I have also no problem killing Nazis.

Well, in reality it does not matter to me at all. Give me a good story and I'm fine with anything.

Australia, would be interesting to see how gaming companies would portray our military.

Russian army, followed by the Hungarian army . Oh and lets not forget the Germans, and I wouldnt be too adverse at killing English in a videogame. Oh and on the last position I guess it would be Canadians, right after the US (cause Canadians haven't done anything to the world yet). I would really hate it if Canadians were CODs next villain .

As a russian dude, I am kinda concerned that we are becoming the FPS equivelant of goombas. Especially now, when I'm planning on joining the army.

Anyway, unless it's some crazy rogue military or PMC, I never felt comfortable killing other soldiers.
