it's been done before.
Casual gaming, general refers to games that don't need any specialized peripheral, atleast that's what I consider them as, thinks that are flash or web based games, games that you can load on just about any computer or mobile device like bejewled or peggle. Games like Diner dash are more casual.
Atleast this is what it used to be, now the casual gamer is someone who might spend a couple hours here or there playing games, while the hardcore gamer will put the majority of their free time into games. I fall into this latter category myself.
The line has been greatly blurred however as gaming in general is becoming more accepted, beind "hardcore" doesn't really matter anymore because anyone can play games now. The firse of affordable consoles really brought an end to hardcore gaming, once upon a time those who were hardcore were frowned upon as being shut ins and losers, now they are just guy play a few too many games and should get out a bit more. The fall of hardcore is because of the rise of the everyman gaming.
so I guess the majority of people are what you would call casual gamers, people who play games in passing to fill a couple hours or maybe even a weekend. People who define themselves through other activites other than gaming. While the hardcore remain as those who gladly stand up and proudly declare themselves hardcore, people who were once regarded as losers embracing the title.
Casual and hardcore is really something you define yourself. This isn't an easy topic to define, but at the same time the only people who care are the hardcore gamers anyway. so I guess the way you can tell if someone is hardcore is if they consider themselves hardcore, everyone else is just casual
