This question has been bothering me so what developer has the most soul?

A few things to explain The most soul means these 4 guidelines.
1 Must try new things alot explore a forgotten genre
2 Must release new ip`s and not uncreative sequels galore
3 Creativity once in a while

So who do you think has the most soul?

I would say Rockstar surprisingly because of their last 2 games were HUGE risks in terms of
finances.
Red dead redemption
A western reanimating an entire genre.
And la Noire
Which arguably created a genre.

Edit valve is requalified after consideration because i did not want people to keep spamming all they want but now spam ahead Please forgive me for my sins and unovertaugh rules

Half-Life
Counter-Strike
Team Fortress
Left 4 Dead
Portal
Alien Swarm

So why exactly are Valve disqualified again?

Experimenting and creativity are definitely qualities of 'soulful' game developing, but I think it's more basic than that.

How about developers that you can really tell gave a shit about the game? Certain games are definitely good but you can tell not a lot of care was put into making it, and vice-versa games that may have been bad still had a loving quality to its crafting.

A bit of a nit-pick, but no one releases "only" sequels. And you can't claim sequels to be inherently uncreative in the same post that you praise a sequel (Red Dead Redemption).

I'd say Valve, Nintendo, Capcom, Team Ico, and Rockstar all qualify in different ways. And, of course, most indies qualify by default.

I agree with this. IMO, they are the most inventive studio in mainstream gaming. OP, did you disqualify them simply because you don't want a hundred posts all saying, "Valve."?

And how can you disqualify Valve for sequels, and then go on to say Rockstar, which was built on the Grand Theft Autos? And, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Red Dead Redemption a sequel?

Isn't LA Noire basically just a sort of reinvention of the Point and Click adventure?

I think Double Fine should definitely be up there. I don't really care for their games but

Grim Fandango
Psychonauts
Brutal Legend
Costume Quest
Stacked
Trenched
Once Upon a Monster

begs to differ. Regardless of how Brutal Legend performed sales wise, i'm pretty sure they're really happy they created that incredibly diverse engine.

Platinum Games are also doing rather well for themselves.

Atlus. Motherfreakin Atlus.

Love those guys. They take risks with new bold ideas, they make kickass RPGs, and they really love their fanbase.

So yeah, Atlus wins as far as I'm concerned.

Mojang,

It's sorta vague if they would qualify by your rules, but for me they win the soul prize.
Every time I start up minecraft and there is a new update(or even when there isnt), I almost feel the love that those guys put into that game. So im voting Mojang.

Also mining and building houses is a rather unexplored genre.

i don't get it, rockstar's GTA franchise has at least 12 games in it, the closest valve has come to something that big is half-life, which basically only has three games in it (the three episodes combined, plus the two full length movies. portal doesn't count, has little to do with plot or gameplay).

anyway - i still go with valve, just because it's a sequal doesn't mean it has no soul. and yes- they mostly make FPS games but each one clearly has many souls poured into it's making (see L4D, portal, and half-life)

I would say so it had more variety. This website loves valve to bits, it'd be a bit boring if every other post was VALVE!

OP:

I would say Rare. I love those guys and Viva Pinata is brilliant.

By this you mean, copy-pasting Grand Theft Auto and then giving all the characters cowboy hats... Real innovation there.

Going by your 'guidelines' barely any developers now would win because all the ones I can think of have either only got 1 or 2 games or have just been putting out sequels.

I'd personally go with either Bioware or Valve, but seeing as I'm not allowed Valve (for no good reason) I'll stick with Bioware, simply because whilst they have only really been pumping out sequels, their games have good storylines which shows they actually have a think about what they're doing.

Yup. Red Dead Revolver on the PS2 kicked off the IP.

Valve, it may not fit the categories but it is the most selfless developer ever.
It cares for its fans by willing to risk its own money for the fan's enjoyment.

It's kind of spiritual sequel to Red Dead Revolver.
