...to deserve all the hatred it gets?

Sure we can all agree, it didn't reach the extremely high standards of it's predecessor. But while not being as good as cod4, it was by no means a bad game.
The story was questionable, but you only realize that halfway through, since the way the story is told, both atmosphere and pacing are exellent.
In about five days or so, playing online, I have encountered as much as one hacker, and no litches at all (or they where too small for me to realize) - and aside from massive waves of crying, I couldn't find any game-breaking balance issues. Sure it has no dedicated servers, but that only concerns Pc-gamers, and I had problems connecting like three or four times... (and not having an admin, that can come up with any whatsoever stupid rules can be a plus). Besides, it took me some time going back, playing cod 4, to realize the massive improvements, certain parts of the multiplayer have undergone.

So why is everyone bashing on Mw2?
Because it's not as good as the previous mw?
Because it has no dedicated servers?
Because it's popular? (which would be my personal assumption, but isn't condemming something because it's popular just as stupid as doing something cause its popular?)

So please share your thoughts, where does all the alsmost haloesque hatred for Mw2 come from?

It was popular, and for some people that's enough to warrant hate. Exactly why, now that varies:
- Because 'people=shit' and all that, so if people like it, it's shit!
- Because nothing popular is ever good
- Can't be
- Arsed
- To go on

But, some people genuinely don't like it and do have viable reasons. Of course, them not liking it mixes them in with the idiots, so we do have to consider these poor souls who think for themselves.

Noob tube, I guess.

Personally, I don't see what's with all the hate myself, but then my experience with MW2 is limited to split screen multiplayer.

I enjoy the game as well, but maybe it's because I steer clear of multiplayer...

As far as the single player experience is concerned, what is there to say that hasn't been said? It feels like they wore out most of the good ideas in the first game, and threw the leftovers onto the sequel. For every level that was fun (all of the levels in the US) there were others that just felt plain (Gulag) or outright irritating (Goddamn Favela level).

Also, the plot... it just makes no sense. The first MW set the standard for a good, believable story of modern combat. It rarely felt OTT, and most felt like the stuff you don't see in the news.

In contrast, the story of the sequel is, for the most part, a succession of OTT moments. That's not necessarily bad, but the precedent had been set in the opposite direction. It's as if you're watching BlackHawk Down and all of a sudden they pull out their laser guns. It may be awesome, but it's no longer believable.

Another common, and accurate complaint is the length. I realize games are getting shorter and shorter these days as production values increase, but for the money spent on the game, I find little reason to justify the campaign being so damn short! It's not just word of mouth, the campaign is actually over before you know it! I rarely believe "the interwebz", but I found myself finishing the game in one lazy Friday afternoon.

Like I said, I enjoyed the game. But it has its flaws. And unfortunatelly, it does deserve a lot of the criticism that it's usually aimed at it.

I played it at a friends house and did most of the Campaign. I have to say, it was a bit... Michael Bay. The MP was horrible due to it being imbalanced, being laggy (might have just been my friend's house but CoD4 works fine there), having 1887 shotguns in a game called "Modern Warfare" and for having no dedicated servers.

SpecOps was fun but got boring really quickly.

Apparently, I'm an idiot now. To most people, anyway.

Two words: The fanbase. Just like Halo, the CoD franchise has a big, vocal fanbase, and they can be extremely annoying to listen to. I wound up disliking the game by association. I'm sure it's decent enough, but now I just want nothing to do with it.

I can't understand all the hate for the game. I thoroughly enjoy the game and don't see much wrong with it except the occasional bad streak. If you don't like then game then why buy it or even complain about it. Yes you have the right to an opinion buy please don't shove it down our throats.

Of course you are, you've formed your own opinion of a game. Instead of deciding whether it's shit or the grail, and then joining your new-found brothers and changing your colours and-
Yeah, but, it really is. Infinity Ward logic seems to be 'Explosions = Plot twists'.

As with almost any other game, players (especially when there are so many) will find unexpectedly powerful combinations of abilities and weapons.

In MW2's case, some of these combinations require some skill to pull off, but others border on being labeled exploits and should be patched out. Marathon/Lightweight/Commando/TacKnife draws alot of hate, and puts anyone lagging slightly at a massive disadvantage; Quickscoping (where a sniper can start to ADS, but then immediately fire, is something I'd consider an exploit. Some weapons are a bit absurd (akimbo shotguns?), noob-tubes get hate, shield/throwing knife combo is a little crazy, the heartbeat sensor causes heaps of people to run Ninja as their Yellow perk, and the list goes on.

I'd say the hate comes from the sheer volume of people playing.

I still play CoD4, by the way. I still think it's one of the best FPSs around.

I agree with this, whenever you have a popular game you will always find some people who try to exploit it.

The story was worse. And the level design.

In CoD4 the story was pretty tight and it held itself together all the way through. In MW2 you spend a lot of time as a ranger in the US and it's not tied into the main plot of Makrov/Taskforce 141 at all. Too many repeated setpieces, and it crossed the line of the suspension of disbelief placing it so as it's not realistic enough to be taken seriously but at the same time not OTT enough to be valued stylisticly. The was possiblity for some real greatness let down by a few bad design choices. Of all the levels in the game the only one I found myself replaying was the Afgan caves at the end. The rest were all too frustrating or just not interesting.

The multiplayer annoyed people due tothe sheer unfairness of it. Being able to fire rockets from drones 1000 feet in the air or using a plane loaded with high explosive shells does not make a balanced game.

The Spec Ops makes up for most of it though.

The biggest thing that PC players hate about MW2 is that Infinity Ward took away Dedicated servers.

People have their opinions for hating and liking things. I like MW2, the story is a bit sucky but the game-play is quite fun.

I don't concentrate that much on why people hate the game. That is their opinions and I respect their opinions.

It wasn't a bad game, in the same way that the Halo games weren't bad. They were just...bland...generic...didn't have anything remarkable about them.

Those 4 words would've sufficed really, IWNET was stupidly horrible idea.

Oh it easily is. That's probably because it was setting new ground then, as far as the CoD series went, and it wasn't under the pressure of trying to live up to anything, unlike MW2.
