What name do you give to this character: /

If so, what would you call the opposite one: \
??

I would call the first one "Slash" and the second one "Back-slash"

If I remember correctly.
Wrong way around, otherwise, spot on.

/ = slash.
\ = backslash.

There's a lot of debate on this and I used to agree with that, but I believe it's the opposite.

\ is backslash. The slash is leaning backwards
/ is slash or forward slash. The slash is leaning forward.

I suppose it could be a matter of how you look at it?

Ahh... Wikipedia, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backslash] what would we do without you?

Btw, / = Slash or forward slash
\ = backslash, reverse solidus, or slosh

Not really...
/ = slash
\ = backslash

DOS prompts used to read C:\ or "see colon backslash".
Hypertext URLs read http:// or "aytch tee tee pee colon slash slash".

Reality is harsh. So I reject it!

Jokes aside, it seems I've been proven misinformed.

All is forgiven. Your reference has cleared you. Now watch this video so that you know we're on the same wavelength here:

The way I learned it was the way loc978 said it:
"DOS prompts used to read C:\ or "see colon backslash".
"Hypertext URLs read http:// or "aytch tee tee pee colon slash slash".

I brought this up because it seems like whenever I hear a news report which quotes a website they invariably say "haych tee tee pee colon back-slash back-slash." Makes me scream at the radio or TV.

When I polled people IRL, I got about a 50-50 split on answers.

I would name the first one Graham and the second one Paul. Sorry I've been watching a lot of LRR lately.
