What do you eat?

I read an article yesterday (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-46865204) about the diet that would be necessary to sustain a world population of 10 billion. (The comments section is comedy gold -- loads of angry people complaining about vegans when the recommended diet is clearly not vegan.)

But anyway, would that diet work for you? Summarised as:

Nuts - 50g a day
Beans, chickpeas, lentils and other legumes - 75g a day
Fish - 28g a day
Eggs - 13g a day (so one and a bit a week)
Meat - 14g a day of red meat and 29g a day of chicken
Carbs - whole grains like bread and rice 232g a day and 50g a day of starchy vegetables
Dairy - 250g - the equivalent of one glass of milk
Vegetables -(300g) and fruit (200g)
If not, why not (that is, what's missing, what can't you do without)?

I could probably get by on it, though I'm alarmed at the lack of crisps and energy drinks (I assume they just didn't get round to listing all the booze you can have). I don't eat meat (I do eat fish, and will eat meat derivatives like beef Hula Hoops, but I don't have, e.g. burgers) so wouldn't have an issue there (this seems to be the bit of it that really makes people angry). I assume the lentils is dry weight.

I'm curious about what people eat, and what influence where they live might have on it (when I went to America, portions were huge; when I went to Tunisia, everyone was very slim).

So anyway. What do you eat on an average day? I have a sandwich (dinner) and a curry (tea). (And crisps.)

Seems alright really. To be honest, I'm part mentally preparing for a future of insect protien powders, so any compromise inbetween is a bonus there. Evidently alcohol requires no limitation whatsoever, so a hopefully assumptious yay! But that's the least of my vices when it comes to treatment of personal health. Or second least. Actually, never tried putting them in order before.

Am curious on trying lab-grown meat though. Wondering if in future we'll get to own our own domestic synthetic meat trees for it too. The thought of maintaining an indoor sci-fi meat orchard is strangely exciting in a clinically macabre way.

I could do this easily. I?m not very conscious of the nuances of what I eat (my food and drink come in ?bites? and ?sips? respectively; not sure where you?re getting that ?gram? nonsense,) but I?m pretty easy to please and don?t eat much. I?ll try about any food as long as ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise were in a different area code during its production, and I?ve no foods that I ?can?t live without.? I?m about two meals a day, usually a light breakfast (an egg in some form) or lunch (rarely both) and dinner is whatever combination of soup, rice, chicken or salad my gf fancies. I?m not a snacker and not big on sweets, so junk foods could go away entirely.

But I?d need booze; 10 billion people really is too many anyway; before we cut out the booze, I think a good old fashion culling of the population might be in order. How many of your ?grams? of health is in bottom-shelf vodka?

While I think you're not necessarily wrong, it generally seems (see the comments on the article linked in the OP) to be the case that people think the culling should be people other than themselves or their loved ones (usually people in other countries).

Can I eat people?

You know what? I could do with losing some weight, maybe an enforced diet would be the way to go.

A good world-wide plague of smallpox would be nice and indiscriminate.

Sounds like a pretty sweet diet to me though it'd be better if I could save up my meat portions, have a day where I eat my fish, then a day where I eat the chicken and so on rather than have everything per day

Doesn't sound all too bad, but I have no scope since I don't measure out my food intake at all.

But if 250g dairy is a single cup of milk, i'm gonna need to increase that to roughly 700g+.
Nobody takes away my milk! I won't let them!

It actually becomes a fairly reasonable diet if you measure by weeks rather than days. Basically eating meat at most for one meal 1-2 days in a week, another 1-2 days of fish and 3-4 days of mainly vegetarian dishes. I think it's fully doable, western-european/american cuisine is just lacking in creativity when it comes to pure vegetable dishes. Those who don't plan on going vegetarian or vegan will have to get more creative when it comes to cooking and we will have to source more food locally in the cases where we can

Considering that almost every dinner I have has some kind meat in it, and that I'm heavy on the carbs (lots of pasta, semi-frequent instant ramen, etc), and very light on the fruits and veggies, I don't think I could pull this off. Not easily anyway. XD

...I really need to eat more healthy.

I am all over synthetic meat and look forward to it being mass-produced. Being able to enjoy meat without needing to support barbaric factory farming conditions would be fantastic.

Meat Trees would be utterly hilarious as a concept and I don't think that's doable, but hot damn is it funny to think about.

Sounds kind of small. Maybe it'd be okay for someone who works in an office and sits for most of the day.

Today for dinner I made spicy crispy chicken on a toasted bun with home made dill mustard sauce, and home made shredded broccoli/roasted almond coleslaw. It was totally yum.

See, I'm just imagining an apple tree but instead of apples they're beating hearts. Not sure if you still qualify that as funny

I suppose I could manage. The list seems to allow a fair amount of carbs, which opens up a lot of options like pastas, stir fries and noodle/rice dishes. The amount of eggs you can have is a tad low for my tastes though. I'd have to save up two weeks to have my precious eggs 'n bakey.

That intake would be a feast for me currently I'm afraid. Been shifting a load of unwanted timber since October, and am on a very restricted diet. For example, yesterday I had:
For breakfast - 1x protein shake - 250 Kcal
For lunch - 1x protein shake - 250 Kcal
For dinner - 1x chicken & mushroom casserole /w green beans & polenta - 420 Kcal
-----
Total daily calories - 920 Kcal.

...

...

Yeah.

I'm assuming it's for medical reaons, but that still seems very low, especially since you're doing what sounds like fairly heavy labor.

Well, not for any current medical reasons (touch wood) but I am losing the weight to lessen the likelihood of future medical reasons. And yeah, it is quite low. A calorie intake of 700 - 800 is considered a crash diet, and although I'm not quite going that far I am taking it as close to that line as I feel comfortable with.

No milk? Its probably really bad for me but I manage to drink a litre of milk every day. I get these UHT sealed 'longlife' milk that come in sealed cartons you can carry around everywhere and store for as long as you like. Its the perfect protein source for on the go. Between the milk drinks and coffee/tea, I ended up drinking a litre every day. Usually its skim milk. The doctor didnt seem too phased when I mentioned it.

Im going to see a nutritionist in february, I'm overweight, since I stopped labouring I didnt really adjust my calories and I gained a lot of weight plus my bloodtest had some weird results for my liver though the doctor wasn't too concerned she just wanted me to lose weight.
