Let's start this off by saying that this is NOT a vs thread. I just want to know what you think about the game.

Brief summary: Guild Wars 2 is the sequel to Guild Wars1 and is made by ArenaNet, the key members of the development firm being the key players in former employees of Blizzard and also the all-stars behind some of their biggest titles. Guild Wars 2 is designed to give you a beautiful grind free MMO experience. It has no traditional quests but dynamic events, every class has a set healing ability and a basic healing profession is nowhere in this game, strategy and you position in the environment is more important than the strength of your gear or skills, it has a dye system that allows you to die your armor to your hearts content($5 says there'll be someone dressed like a rainbow or prince), you can choose your backstory and the events you choose in your life determines your actions in other events or cutscenes(you could be a noble, a commoner, or a street rat), there is a system called the sidekick system that allows a friend of yours at a lower level than you to rise up to the same level as you for a quest, a one time payment for the game(ONE TIME, no subcrip) and so much more that you need to check out the official website*.

So what's your take on it or expectations? Think its gonna be new and fresh or old and rotten? What do you think about it and what impresses or makes you a little dodgy about it? Comment and discuss, feel free to post links of your own videos or pics and maybe even links.!

My expectation is that it will be a good MMO which fills a niche in the MMO market. It will be compared to WoW, some will say it's better than WoW. Then again, at this point, some people would say having all their teeth pulled out one at a time is a preferable alternative to WoW.

While I think it would be enjoyable, I probably won't buy it. It's not the kind of MMO I'm looking for. I'm not a fan of story driven MMOs. From my experience playing MMOs, I believe the best MMO would be one which relies on the players to make an emergent story in a sandbox world. A combination of Minecraft, A Tale in the Desert, and Planetside would be amazing.

So like APB but without the suck or an Saints Row MMO? Or a videoame that takes place in a world where 2012 is real but didn't end the world but turned the notch on certain environments to 10(forests are overgrown, jungles nearly seem alive, deserts are big and deadly and nearly every building of stone, steel, and glass were ravaged in the process) and an extreme evolution/mutation/adaptation in the local flora and fauna of the world as you gather followers to create a commune of survivors and eventually establishing your own self sustainable city and rebuilding society while jointing other cities as united city-states also giving your choice of where to build your city? (if you need me to elaborate on this pls quote again)(also, first on idea, this forum exists as proof that this concept is my idea)

If I ever decide to start playing a MMO again it would probably be this.
It's seems interesting and I hope it isn't another wow clone.
Plus. No monthly fees!

Sort of. The one big problem I had with Planetside was hard factions. I think players should be able to fluidly change their allegiances and make their own groups. Hard factions tend to lead to one side becoming dominate such as in MAG.

I also liked the blank slate approach of A Tale in the Desert and Minecraft. You were basically faceless, but your works spoke for you. Not your title or gear or achievements. Walking down the Nile in A Tale in the Desert is mildly amazing. You see entire cities and monuments, and players did all of that.

I'm buying it because it looks awesome, and no monthly fees.

I have the first Guild Wars, but I don't play it often.

If they deliver what they're saying they will, it should be fucking awesome. I loved Guild Wars and have been stoked for the sequel since it was announced. The only problems I can forsee is that the new combat and dynamic event systems fail, or that it gets compared to WoW too much and doesn't pull in a large enough playerbase.
I really hope it works though, I wanna play as a Char!

I think that if it doesn't prove it is nothing like the first Guild Wars then I won't touch it.

From the few vids I've seen from it, I thought it looked thoroughly enjoyable.
I love story-telling, and if it's a good one I'm happy. I hate grinding, so that's wonderful if it hasn't got any.

Also, no monthly subscription fee. Yay!

Its no secret, I love this game. Everything I see about it makes the game seem more awesome.
Personal story missions that make my character feel important,

dynamic events that actually impact the living world, and are actually happening in it,
(nobody telling you horrible things are doing horrible things when they're just standing around in a field waiting for you to kill them)

epic music (Jeremy Soule) and award-winning art style (Daniel Dociu and Kekai Kotaki), and an already impressive library of voiceover work,
(including awesome voices such as Felicia Day and Steve Blum)

the attention to details: grass weaves as you pass by, water drips off your wet body when you leave it, cloth, leather and metal items that actually look like they're made of cloth, leather and metal, not just colored beige, brown or gray...

the downright insane amount of story and lore in this world: just recently the developer's blog printed articles on three [http://www.arena.net/blog/the-wisdom-and-power-of-the-kodan] of the minor [http://www.arena.net/blog/go-forth-and-multiply-the-hylek] races [http://www.arena.net/blog/those-sneaky-sneaky-skritt] in the game. That's right, three non-playable, generally unimportant species in the game have their own lives, beliefs, and values... and that is NOTHING compared to the five playable ones,
(and no reading walls of text to get it)

no subscription fees,

moves and abilities that look and feel powerful without being useless,

and the very first thing that sold me on this game: pet sharks [http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/ranger/].

I could go on, but that's enough for this text wall. (Need to mine more text blocks. heh.)

PS: If you have about an hour, the videos in here [http://www.arena.net/blog/video-the-guild-wars-2-pax-east-panel] say pretty much everything anyone needs to know. If you don't, this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E] video sums it up nicely too, in about 6 mins.

I've been looking forward to this since the day it was announced. And hey, as said before, no monthly fees, and it looks like it's bringing some fresh and neat ideas to the table that will expand on what was already a solid online experience. So for me there simply is no excuse as to why I shouldn't get this as soon as I can after launch.

No monthly fees? That caught my eye.

I may give it a go, I played the first GW back when it was kinda new.

Well than if we do get into a scenario we could always fire up the AC-130, load up the 9 ml, 50 il, and 100 ml with emails and messages, and bomvard Yahtzee's private fortress island begging him to review it and prove it's not like WoW

I'm extremely skeptical. All this talk of a story that's changed by the actions of the player just sounds like world phasing technology to me the likes of which WOW employs to mixed effect, and while the visuals are stunning no denying that, I'm worried that all that beauty will come at the expense of a genuine open world experience. Either because the pathways the player will be able to walk down will be very heavy scripted or because the world will be so small!

I've also read a lot of praise for the combat and yet when I watch gameplay it just looks like a more frantic version of the same MMO formula we've been playing since Everquest.

Still, it's got promise and I like it when developers try something new and different. Just how new and different the game turns out to be, well, we'll see. But without monthly fees I might end up picking it up! I've did the same for the original after all. No monthly fees is a big draw and one I wish more developers would give a shot.

I'm looking forward to it, I played an Elementalist in GW1 and they were one of the more fun mage classes I have played in any MMO, only topped by the Warlock in WoW(IMO). It looks like they've streamlined the game a lot more and I can't wait to jump in and try out the Elementalist. I don't think you have to worry about dual class anymore either, at the very least I haven't read anything about it. Hopefully I won't run around with Emo in front of my name anymore. >.>

Considering the Monk class is gone I wouldn't worry about that reallly. :p (Which is a bit of a pity since I mained a monk, but I can understand their logic in removing the class)
