Hello a pleasure to meet you all.
I find this new Doctor who series to be too saccharine and sentimental for my tastes I much preferred David Tennent and his predecessors to this new Doctor and this new series. Yet I am curious as to why others enjoy this new series so very much. Could you please explain to me why you enjoy Matt Smith's zany personality and his attitude throughout his role? What of his companions, do you believe they garner as much sympathy or interest as other companions of the series? Does anyone else feel the same as I do? Please quell my curiosity, thank you.

Sadly, I haven't been able to catch either of the 2 new ones. But, since the last regeneration, you might as well have called it the Amy Pond show. I couldn't stand Amy, Rory or River, and I don't care for Smith's Doctor either. The only nonirritating characters they had were the sidekick aliens he started collecting to go to war.

I just hope "souffle girl" will be a far more interesting companion, though anything has got to be better than Amy Pond.

So I'm not one of the completely positive people (David Tennant <3) but the couple of things brought in by Matt Smith are 1) A break from the melodrama. We had two very serious Doctors (which was great) but we needed to have a change of pace from that, otherwise it would have begun to feel a bit samey and oppressive.
2) Matt Smith is very energic
3) A lot of the rough edges of the earlier seasons have been smoothed off, there are still bad episodes in the new series but the don't have some of the same jaggedness that the mistakes in the earlier series had. Now it's more a matter of bad pacing or an improperly established villain.
4) Matt Smith is more fairytale/fantasy to the previous series' sci-fi. Thats probably a matter of taste
5) 'Epic' moments are handled a bit better. Russel T Davis writing an epic episode was always a cause from concern (series finales were often pretty bad, Daleks vs Cybermen?), Moffats can be a bit too talky or burdened by complexity but they fall into the trap of introducing a universe destroying bad guy and destroying it again in 40 minutes a little less.
6) Production values have gone up a lot. With the downside that the new series is a lot greyer and washed out, but they seem to be fixing that with this current series
8) New companions are WAY WAY WAY WAY better than the previous companions. WAY. They're all interesting, they fall into damsel and distress roles a lot left often, both Rory and Amy were relatable, had conflict, arcs, multiple dimensions, good relationships with each other. Martha Jones did nothing, Rose was okay but a bit... and Donna was too much like Catherine Tate.
9) Plots are a little more complex, but can be too complex

Because in my honest opinion, Matt Smith is the best new who. He actually comes off as an old man, which the Doctor very much is, with his quirks and his speech patterns and... Pretty much everything. Not the best Doctor, for sure, but still damn good. Also when he goes 'epic' he truly becomes amazing, and you can really understand why he's feared. I guess he feels more like The Doctor.

Furthermore I didn't find Amy to be that bad of a companion, especially as things went along. Her send off was very emotional and I think she was pretty well acted. The same goes for Rory really, who I initially hated but came to really like.

And honestly? Tennant's Doctor was not that great. Mainly for reasons of Rose, but he's had a bunch of bad episodes which she had nothing to do with (the last lot come to mind). Again, back to Rose, as I've said multiple times before Rose Sue" Tyler has got to be one of the worst companions in the show to date, and the fact that the Doctor spent an entire fucking season after she was gone moping about her was annoying as hell.

Overall I just feel that Matt Smith's run has been more consistently good, while Tennant was... Bumpy. He had good moments, very good moments in fact, but his bad moments were really bad.
