I just want to know. I read the "would you die for your country?" thread. 73.4% of you said "no" as of 5:16am pst. We aren't living in a post WWII world anymore. (Well, maybe we are. I don't know. Maybe the hangover from that large of a war never fully goes away.) I want to know, what is it you live for? I don't want "right" answers. I want to know what you live for, my people of the world. A majority aren't a part of this "die for your country" mentality, according to the previous poll. A majority of us weren't raised by people that have served, or currently serve. (I was, but I know many that were not.) I wonder, when the lights go out, and you are behind closed doors, when your children are safe and fed, what do you live for?

Myself?

I think a better question to answer your question is "What drives you?"

Basically what drives me is friends, family and my Hobbies. Knowing that after a long work trip to one of the far corners of the world those things will still be there when I get home is what drives me.
And having those things taken away from me makes me depressed.

So I guess that is what I live for, those moments with my friends, family and hobbies.

For life itself, of course.

Life is not the question, it is the answer. An answer that like many others can be phrased more or less expansively and eloquently, but ultimately always come down to creating/maintaining a world for one to live in as safely and comfortably as possible.

So to maintain as safe and comfortable a life as possible - for myself and those I care about - is why I live.

I don't know. I guess I'm just wasting time until I die. I have my goals and ambitions but they're just there so that I can have something to do while I'm still here.
I still haven't found that something/someone to be my reason. Right now, all i want from life is to be entertaining enough to keep me going,to keep me from stagnating.

Shallow, I know, but at least it's honest (I think).

Well first of all the drive for self-preservation is pretty powerful.

Other than that I live for pleasure. Things that make me feel good push me forward in life. Great food, interesting friends, hot sex life - these thing make it all worthwhile. It's also nice to know your profession does more good than bad on this fucked up planet.

*Sings 'Live to win'*

I live to enjoy myself, my goal is to have a career I enjoy and use to get a home and enough money to mostly do what I feel like each day (I dont mean millions to be stupid with, just enough income to be comfortable). I'm also not under the illusion that I have a duty to anyone else's ideals or morals or cause. When it comes down to it, I'm here for myself, not my country, or my government, or the society I've been forced to accept from birth. That being said I'm pretty generous towards people and I have a friendly attitude towards most of humanity.

I wake up 5-7 days a week (misleading, I wake up everyday) to work an 8-10 hour job. I get off and go home to do chores for another couple of hours. Finishing that my girl usually has dinner ready to eat and we sit down to eat and talk about our day (don't know why, 90% of the time it is the same crap). Then it may be a couple of games with the girl or we may watch a movie. Following the entertainment portion of my day is shower and sleep (with the occasional opportunity for sex).

The cycle continues...

The funny thing is, I actually enjoy my life, with the exception that I work so damn much. I am currently trying to rectify that situation though.

There isn't much for me to keep me going these days. I've still got my friends, martial arts practice, ultimate frisbee, my art, and my music.
At least I can easily share my music:

I live for fun. My personal life mission is to squeeze every drop of enjoyment I can out of this life. And to try to help other enjoy life a little more as well.

This includes seeing friends whenever possible, cuddling with my GF, and of course video games.

...But I'm not about to screw over my real life for fun. I need to stay alive in order to keep having fun, after all.
