So what do you think of pirates in popular culture. Old, boring thing? or could there be more great pirate films?

How about the game, Pirates of the Burning Sea! Good stuff. Most Pirate films however seem to suck, to be honest. Either stupidly historically inaccurate, or just uninteresting.

Real pirates were just disenfranchised hired/enslaved army members, knowing no life to turn to afterwards they went with killing to survive as usual.

Indeed, quite boring to be honest... Sailing forever at a snails pace getting scurvy, occassionally attacking some undefended ship, then back to more sailing. :\

Bonus points for the Soul Eater avatar ^^

A surprisingly good movie
As a whole i'd say Pirates of the Caribbean has made me pretty sick of the concept for the foreseeable future. Until something good with pirates in it shows up again i'm not going to be interested.

Indubitably, but at least they weren't used like ants as the average worker, sure life is much more peaceful and sustained, but all the action is riddled with politics and army or army-like enforcement... maybe a cataclysm of some sort would even out the population enough for some medieval age stuff to go down, one can dream...

also the avatar is quite nice, unfortunately gifs don't work here e.e, at least not for non-paying users or the like.

Sid Meier's Pirates! is one of my favorite games.
When I played it on PC, it made my dad's computer crash, but now I have a better PC, and the PSP version.
While I love the PSP version for being a great game, it cut out the bar fights, free swinging camera, and the ability to decide how many guns you ship would use among other things.
I really should play more of the PC version, but I have Arcanum and Terraria to play right now.

I really do not understand where the unwashed undisciplined idea of pirates has stemmed from.
Most pirates where former members of the royal navy the reason they where so successful and feared was their discipline from former military service.

Most just went to pirating because there service was up or because it was for the good pirates are far richer career.

Only 1 game can ever do justice to Pirates...

MONKEY ISLAND.

The first one.

That is all.

Regular users can have GIF avatars. They just must be 75x75 pixels or less. Publisher Club members bet 100x100 pixel avatars.

In fiction, there's lots of uncharted sea (forgive the pun) to be explored in the concept of pirates. The first Pirates of the Carribean movie did it well, and if you like anime/wuxia and tabletop role-playing games, White-Wolf's Exalted game has a ton of good pirate fiction material.

Yeah, the concept was a bit overwrought in pop culture by the Pirates movies that followed the first, but in nerd/geek/gamer culture, pirates still have potential.

Now zombies on the other hand, definitely overdone. I was really into the who "zombie apocalypse" thing when it was new, but now, I'm pretty much over it.
