i reckon that if someone put enothe time into it a portable console could be good enothe to sell more than the top of the range home based consoles

i have a DS and i use it when ever i can/when i get bored
and all i get if wierd looks and people saying "you sad boy grow up"
why do people say grow up, you can 50 and still play games
its a normal part of life nowadays

what do the rest of you think?

What do you conceptualize as a "portable console?" It seems to me the Nintendo DS is already there. Any larger, and it's too inconvenient. Any smaller and the gaming technology suffers.

Anyway, portable gaming is great, I have to agree. The funny thing is that a lot of that is because the reduced technical overhead forces the developers to think in terms of gameplay instead of whiz-bang graphics. Consequently, some of the best gaming experiences I get these days are on my Nintendo DS - the XBox 360 and PC may be prettier, but rarely do they have that level of focus on the gameplay itself.

thats what i think
every one of my gamer mates go for graphics and say stuff like "this looks like a ace game because it looks so real" when it turns out to suck
and i go for the crap graphic games that people look at and say "this is crap when" it gives hours of entertainment without flaw and will be there when ever you need a good game

It's pretty lame, really, since it always lags behind home consoles in innovation. That said, if you just want a DS to play Mario 64 in the car, it's hard to be critical.

Well portable gaming can be great. The margin of bad games for portable game consoles is alot higher imo, but yeah great games can come in small packages. I still think that the Pokemon games for the gameboy are pretty good, well the first ones anyway.

Grammar. Punctuation. Capitalisation. Use them.

Also, as for portable gaming, I always find myself playing the games sitting in my room, because I don't have the time for a full game when I am on-the-go.

Portable consoles hmm....Ben Heck is the best person to go to for one of those. Handhelds, however, can become popular yes, but it is unlikely that for a long time will a handheld ever be able to compare to a home console in terms of power and capability - the only convenience is the portability. For example the PSP cannot even compare to the PS2's graphics and power yet is popular due to its convenience. The DS is an even better example - it uses the touch screen gimmick to attract customers.

Oh, and this may sound harsh, but try to use proper sentences next time please [rather than just do one big rant]. Thanks.

I own both a PSP and a DS and I can honestly say I haven't used either for a good year or so. I've come to the point when if I'm at home I'll be gaming on my PC, PS3 or 360 and if I'm out somewhere I'm simply too busy to play any games. To me, handheld consoles are a great idea but I've never used them.

Well all this could change as Xbox/Microsoft are releasing a hand held console. I have no idea about any of the factors of the console so dont ask me.

As long as it continues to have excellent games, I'll enjoy my DS. If a timewarp appears and eliminates those games, I'll sell it or something.

I play gaming consoles for the games. A handheld is another gaming console to me, although it is extraordinarily comfortable to play in bed.

I haven't played a proper PC/Gamecube/Wii/Dreamcast game for quite some time now. I simply haven't had the time to play any game lately. Whenever I go to the toilet, or when I'm lying in bed, I occasionally play some Castlevania on my NDS, because it's kind of a pick-up-and-play game. So in my opinion, Portable gaming is quite nice.

Furthermore, there are many NDS games with simple, yet excellent, gameplay elements which makes these games quite good. Whereas they do not look as good as the games on the non-portable gaming machines, they are definitely enjoyable and less time consuming.
