I always wondered what civilians though of us when we go by. Here in Hawaii, military personell are as common as mongooses, but they aren't as common on the mainland. Most people here in Hawaii think of us cordially and think of us very highly. What do you think of US soldiers?

Actually, scratch all that. I'm going to refrain from stating my opinion on the matter. I don't want to be flamed by everyone and their dog for being "PRO-MILITARY RETARD HURR DURR".

Don't blame soldiers for wars, at the very least. Blame politicans who start them.

"Just following orders."

I think two things about that. For one, I think they're good people holding to a code which is higher than the individual. Two, I think they're mindless; incapable of discerning right and wrong.

I have contradictions of thought.

I think US soldiers are jealous that the British army are better trained. >:

EDIT - As an afterthought, I realised I should probably add that I have nothing but respect for ANYONE who decides to dedicate their life to protecting people who don't have the means to protect themselves.

I couldn't agree more. If they are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the defense of their home country nobody should have bad thoughts or comments about them.
But that's the problem. In recent times, US soldiers HAVEN'T been used for the defence of their home country. I have nothing against the soldiers themselves, and would think much higher if they WERE defending the country, but as it stands, most of the time they're just 'liberating' countries.

To clarify though, that isn't the soldier's fault, and I have no disrespect for them.

Ironic isn't it? You guys have better training than us, but we have a bigger budget? That reminds me, i nearly laughed out loud when i first heard a British soldier talk. Having grown up listening to various Asian and Pacific languages, i was used to hearing weird accents, but when i heard this guy talk , i was so reminded of Redwall i nearly burst out laughing to his face.

this. it could be a war against a great Allie of mine, but soldiers of any country are ten times braver than me.

There are a lot more of you guys to train, though.

I gotta agree there. It's not the soldiers I have a problem with, it's what they are ordered into doing I have an issue with.

If the war ever reaches home, we'll be in a world of shit. So we root out potential threats before they can attack. The best defense is a good offense.

Yes, unfortunately all the exposure you'll see ,outside of some rare movies, is bad for US citizens, as far as I am concerned.

I know they're not all like that, but the bad apples make the whole tree stink some times...

I think the ROTC should be ashamed of itself for looking for applicants IN WAR-TIME, where the lovely college education they're providing for you is supplanted by "We need you overseas, pronto.". That said, I have a cousin who was a soldier and did not go to the Middle East. Heh, she was in the Pentagon.

They be mah heroes.
^ This. I know they're doing a job I could never make myself do, and I appreciate them protecting us. Especially since America's army is a voluntary one, and not a draft....right now at least.
