What do you want in the new Super Smash Bros that isn't a particular character?

I've noticed that a lot of the discussion about the new Smash Bros has been about new characters or what characters will not return, with seemingly very little discussion about stages, items, etc.

Personally, I'm hoping that they have an adventure mode like Subspace, but with things like the camera in two-player fixed. I suspect that it will happen, considering the appearance of the Yellow Devil at the end of the video announcing Megaman, but it could also end up being more like a boss rush type of mode.

I thought Subspace was a horrendous drag, and I want to see it expanded on. It was Smash Brothers with some basic platforming and some creative enemies to fight, and nothing else. It never played different from when you first started it. It's like playing Super Metroid or a Kirby or a Castlevania game without any of what made those games fun -- no upgrades, or secrets, or mana-things, or new playstyles. It was a pretty weird 2D sidescroller because the way how jumping and gravity works in Smash Bros.

But otherwise, I'm pretty good, Brawl holds up as a solid game as ever.

EDIT: Oh yeah, get rid of tripping. Don't even have an option to turn it on or off, get rid of it entirely.

Personally, I'd rather seen Adventure mode return from Melee, and get rid of the Subspace Emissary (or any story mode). Personally I preferred a shorter mode where you can play as whatever character you want than an overlong story mode that forces you to play as certain characters at certain times. Not to mention, I really see no point for a story in a Smash Bros. game.

Perhaps they could also have an in-game store where you buy things with the coins you earn in the singleplayer modes. It just seems limiting when the Coin Launcher is the only place to really use them. Things like alternative costumes for characters, trophies specific to the store, and maybe even an unlockable character or two could be in the store. Whatever the case is, at least it will give more purpose to the coins we keep collecting in singleplayer.

If they're going to bring back having "demos" for classic games, they should probably think about doing it by limiting us to just one or two levels, or they could have a decent time limit on games that don't have official levels. Trying out games on Brawl was pointless, as you couldn't even tell if you liked the game or not given how little time you had to play it.

Get rid of the random tripping. Hadn't played much of brawl till recently, but that was irksome.

Also, I want tobe able to play every map made for the SSB series!

Actually, my last N console was a 64, so mebe my opinion doesn't count.

I liked subspace, but I do agree it was a little long after a bit.
I'd like to see something like it. Maybe more of a story per character type thing? Like a 1 - 2 hour mini campaign for each character. That being said, I really enjoyed watching all the characters interact in subspace in the cutscenes and such.

I'd also like them to remove tripping entirely. That was a terrible idea.

Tripping has already been confirmed to be removed. I also hated it.

I agree that some of Subspace was a "drag" (The maze at the end for instance), but what I really liked were the bosses, which is why I hope they at least have a boss rush mode.

I also liked the Subspace Emissary, but agree it could use some work. First off, that maze at the very end was entirely bullshit padding, and needs to go. Second, needs more unique bosses (not just playable characters).

In addition, I think that Pokeballs could use alittle work. Alot of the Pokemon weren't all that useful in Brawl. Add a few more entirely offensive Pokemon in there.

I'm not getting a nintendo console. PC master race 4lyfe

But if I were I would want more items. LOTS MORE items and drop configuration options so I could decide if I wanted Bob-ombs to drop rarely or all the damn time.

Competitive scene can go to hell. If they want to remove items they should go play some other fighter game because items and characters are what makes Smash bros Smash bros.

I've posted about this before on Miiverse but I'd love to play on a Miiverse stage. Think Pictochat only it would be made using actual miiverse posts.

I'd like to see SSE expanded upon too but have no real suggestions...

I reckon it would be awesome if they had 10 different adventure modes involving some classic moments from the classic games the characters are from.

Also, I really want the side air dodge back. That was my favourite strategic move to screw if friends.

I really wish they would bringing more characters from other classic games not exclusively owned by nintendo, rather than doing this stupid bullshit of characters like the Wiifit train and guy from animal crossing. Solid Snake and Sonic were some of the best additions to brawl. I really wish they would bring in characters from the "Tale of" series of games. I'd love to play as Kraatos or Lloyd from Tales of Symhonia, Ashe or Luke from Tales of The Abyss, or Yuri or Flynn from Tales of Vesperia. I'm sure there are tons of other great characters out there that could be added.

I agree with the thing about the pokeballs. Make them more useful.

As for Subspace emissary. I enjoyed it a lot. Get rid of the maze fodder though, add more diversity of enemies, and make the platforming a little more interesting.

I know that I don't want to see the Smash Ball return.

I'm not a competitive player so I have no in depth idea about the intricacies of the fighting mechanics. Can someone please point out the benefit that this stupid thing is supposed to have?

You CAN air dodge in brawl, I think you're thinking of wave-dashing.

Love the store idea. Personally I like subspace better than adventure mode. Besides in brawl you can still do classic mode if you want.

It's just another fun item to screw around with. Competing for the smash ball and then chasing your friends with super powers adds another layer of fun.

I have no idea why you would have something against this, you know you can turn it off right?

Not air dodge, 'side air dodge'. In Melee you can shift into any direction while dodging and it was great for mind games.

Turn it off at the expense of there super moves, yes I knew I could do that.

I thought that whenever that thing floated in to the arena, it disrupted the flow of the actual fight. I dunno, to me it felt like the objective of what we were doing completely changed into something unrelated.

All I want is a way to have those moves activated without chasing some item around. Maybe some sort of power Bar?

Defiantly want subspace back, but expanded on and improved. Agreement with above, it felt a bit stretched in areas, but now they can get rid of the crap that did that(bullcrap mazes) and add more variety. I mean, you have Sheik Zelda smashing an Arwing with her fist, then Peach calms everything down with tea. Can't not have that in the new one. Judging by cutscene with mega man in it where he sets Mario, Link, DK, and Kirby on fire, it looks like it's returning in some fashion (doubt they'd do an entire scene for the sake of promoting the new character.
