What do you want to happen to your corpse?

And do you even care?

It occurred to me that we have more choices than ever before about what precisely happens to our body after we cease to need it.

You can be buried in a fresh grave, in a family grave, inside a church or outside in a graveyard. You can be cremated and then buried, or scattered, or even turned into a diamond for your loved ones to keep. You can donate some/all of your organs to people who need them, or donate your entire body to medical science. You can even let artists have your body, to cover with plastic as they wish.

Personally, the only real priority I have is that any healthy organs I have left go to people who can use them. Beyond that, give me to medical students or burn me, I don't really care which. Hell, if someone wants to make a piece of modern art out of my remains (and my family aren't going to be upset by this) then go wild!

What do other people think? And does anyone have any other exciting methods of body-disposal to add?

I sorta imagine I'd stop caring about the moment of death.

The idea of donating my organs is rather disquieting for some reason. On the other hand, again, too dead to worry about that, so I'd prefer people not died as a result.

Seriously though, while I find the idea of donating my body to science disconcerting (I don't want them to fiddle around inside me... Thats MY job!) the logic of it makes that feeling seem stupid. Bodily donations have saved countless lives, and the other part of me enjoys the idea that I will be of use after my death.

I would have it be preserved, and then placed somewhere out in public, but still sort of tucked away, with a motion sensitive camera nearby. Someone stumbles upon it, the camera catches the reaction, and then I have my family move it before they can call the police or have their friends take a look. Then it turns up elsewhere.

At some point, the reactions would be put on youtube, and lulz are had by all.

I would have my cremated ashes turned into a diamond by LifeGem and placed on a diamond ring for my wife, so that I may be with her always, for what is more eternal than diamond?

In an ideal world, I'd like a Viking funeral; My corpse placed in a small wooden boat, pushed out to sea and then set alight by hail of flaming arrows. That probably wouldn't be feasible (HEALTH & F-ING SAFETY!), so I'll just get cremated, and have my ashes separated amongst my loved ones so they may do as they wish. Personally, I don't care what they do, I'll be dead.
