Straightforward enough, although I suppose this could be an 'I wish' thread as well; but perhaps we could work within the conceivable.

What would you like to see announced/developed/introduced in 2013?

I'm personally hoping that Firaxis will remove the fingers from their collective anii and make some XCOM DLC that's actually worth a damn (although I certainly think one year would be a little too early for the inevitable expansion).

Or failing that, modding tools and a map editor.
...
A MAN CAN DREAM!

Perhaps more in the realm of hypotheticals, I'd like to see an end to the '30something slightly grizzled white male' protagonist. Of course given that it's the norm, having one game with a black/asian/mediterranean/middle-eastern/otherwise non-caucasian could be grounds for gimmickry, but if done well enough...

How about choo?

The fiery death of AAA gaming model.

Also, the best game of 2013 is coming out early in the year. Wargame: AirLand Battle is almost here!

Like the poster before me mentioned, I want to see how some of those mid tier kickstarter games turn out, the 1st been Strike Suit Zero in Jan 2013.

Considering just how bland AAA gaming has become i'm looking forward to playing all these genres and sub genres that have been left by the wayside by the mainstream over the years. If these mid tier Kickstarter games are as half as good as FTL i'll be a happy chappy and would shut up all the haters over at Eurogamer who think KS should be just for small indie games.

Also looking forward to Bioshock Infinite, Dark Souls 2, Metal Gear Rising, Anarchy Remains & Dodonpachi Saidaioujou

New consoles but that's a given, I would love a UMVC4 much preferably if they kept Phoenix Wright in there, nerfed/removed Wesker and my god please add Franziska Von Karma. You could do it Capcom, the whip makes her an easy person to make a moveset for!

WANT MY TEAM ACE ATTORNEY!

Oh and that new BlazB game that is apparently being worked on.

Plus if Atlus can get their shit together and release P4A some godforsaken time next year that would be great. There is no way they should be able to charge full price for that waiting time though, in my opinion

- Some stories that are worth getting invested in.

- A slew of interesting and diverse characters.

- Gameplay that doesn't feel exactly like something I've already played.

...

Ha, yeah I know, fat bloody chance. Still, I can dream, right?

Back in the real world, I will settle for Bioshock Infinite's story not sucking and it's gameplay at least not being too generic. Also, The Last of Us not pulling a bait-and-switch with its hype would be nice.

The only game i`m being hyped so far is GTA5. It sounds to good to be true. Last of Us is also a game i`m keeping my eyes on, but i don´t expect much more than the usual high quality Naughty Dog delivers which isn`t a bad thing either.

2012 was a good gaming year for me. Gameplaywise i loved MP3 (not much new compared to the first two games) and Dragon`s Dogma which surprised me with a great fighting system and the grab button. I don`t expect any mayor new gameplay mechanics in 2013 but sometimes the little stuff matters.

New consoles would be nice. It`s time and they are long overdue.

Edit: The new Tomb Raider is also worth a look to me.

I want to see a set date for Persona 5. I know it's probably only going to come out 2014/2015, but I want a solid date to mark on my calender.

Hmm, i'll raise you one and say a set release date for the P5 EU release. Atlus is so bad at EU releases it's gone beyond a joke after Persona 4 Arena was released back in August in NA and there is no release date in sight still for the EU release.

Watch us have to wait an extra year for P5 while dodging spoilers all fucking year.

1) A massive shift towards player options in gaming:
- Give me the ability to modify all controls on my controller/keyboard/mouse
- Allow me to choose standard difficulty types: Casual, very easy, easy, normal, hard, very hard, insane
- Allow players to modify mechanics in a more detailed inventory like we can with EA sports games. EA sports games let us change the rules of the sport and even break the rules of the sport for us to play the kind of game we want to play.
Why can't we do this in all genres?
Examples: Dragon Age Origins - Give players the option to double or triple the skills unlocked per level. Give players the option to gain x2 or x10 XP/Gold. Give us the option to increase walk speed by 200% or 500%, etc.
Naturally any of these conveniences would be taken away in multiplayer. But why restrict this stuff to PC only console commands?

2) Removal of 'forced' grind in all gaming genres.
- Borderlands 2 would be a great game if you didn't have to backtrack to give in quests.
- No RPG should require leveling off of monsters to proceed. Taking the natural progression should be sufficient.
- If the mechanic isn't engaging, don't make it tedious. Leveling blacksmithing in Skyrim for example. Who does this legitimately only using it when you're seeking an upgrade? No one that I know. Most people just tediously creates hundreds of steel daggers until we are the best smith in the world. This is a grind and a failure in game design.

Generally a higher technical standard of releases.
But more on the creative side I want to see more devs going for that mid range game that can deliver a great idea in a smaller package that doesn't outstay it's welcome, and that this starts chipping away at the triple A blockbuster or die mentality.

Also HL3... haha, fat chance.

I dunno about you guys, but I'm super excited for Call of Battle: Duty of Honorfield 27.

Seriously, though, I think a Just Cause 3 would be the fo-shizzliest game ever. I loved the first two to death, and I can't wait to see what else they can do with the series.

More info on Source engine 2, and one-player experiences with interesting worlds. Bioshock Infinite and MEtro: Last Light is gonna help me with that!

Dragon Age 3, new consoles and a smattering of other things I can't quite remember.

What I want more than anything is for someone to figure out how to make RTS work on Kinect. Then I can leave my PC in the dust. Probably won't happen but I can dream.

-Fewer sequels and more original story/concept ideas

-More though provoking games, whether it's from the story, gameplay or level design.

-Emphasis on using the new hardware and software technology to enhance the gameplay (see The Jimquisition's "Look What Our Tech Can Do!" piece).

-And as perkl mentioned above, the Death of the AAA Gaming Model. Until that happens I'll probably never see anything on my Wish List.

Like ever.
