As I read the title, I too was about to jump in and suggest Victorian. Call of Duty: American Civil War, or even the English Civil War. That would be a good move in my books, as Call of Duty is one of my preferred FPS's. Muskets and crossbows would really work, not to mention cannons acting as turrets. The french Revolution could work too. There are so many historical battles that have only been covered by RTS's. If you brought it down to ground level and played through the experiences of a French Peasant, then you could learn shit as you kill the filthy aristocartic swine!

Well Victorian I guess it means using some sort of Muskets and Muskets werent knowed for their accuraccy or not blowing up on the Musketer(???) hands...so not really.

What we need is a proper WW2 game that spans most of the war decently, Modern Warfare can be done correctly like CoD4 but for the love of everything thats nice give bigger campaigns and less obvious plots like Arabs=mad terrorists Russians/Koreans=nuclear bomb addicts...

I would say give more futuristic FPS like Halo/Crysis and FPS based on dystopian worlds like Half Life 2 or "platform" FPS like Portal or Mirror Edge.

Or very enjoyable gameplay depending who you are.

If there were to be a new 18th or 19th century based FPS I really don't think Call of Duty is the engine to use or franchise for it to be in.

I say if done right it would make for very interesting gameplay, though I doubt it would still be called a FPS.

How about WWI though. Sure, that is bound for a lot of camping, but it deserves a little exploring.

I think it has potential, but not enough to make it marketable to people who prefer modern guns and/or FPSes. Maybe if you make it more of a third-person shooter with potential for guns (as something of a rare weapon than a standard one), it might work. I, however, am hoping something like that happens in Assassin's Creed 3 or 4, assuming the games move ahead to different eras and characters as opposed to staying locked in 1200 AD, fixated on the same bloody character.

I think WW1 would work better on a RTS OR maybe make a WW1 Castle of Wolfenstein type of game, we dont need to be story accurate.

Maybe Vietnam.

It has been done before, yes, but there are not much titles who done that one right.

But other than that, i'm more interested in the backdrops of an FPS rather than it's era because there is not too much choice anyways in my opinion.

That said, i feel like russia might deserve to further explored. Either the regions with really dense forests and few population or dense urban settings.

Also, it would be great to have Shooters with levels that put a shootout in the middle of public, un-devastated, populated places.

I think it would be awesome if you had an late medieval arsenal of weapons.
crossbow longbow knives and a slingshot yeah a slingshot.
kinda like thief.
but without the stealth.
you could have al sorts of funtastic things like a mini balista throwing bags of burning gunpowder.
and auto reloading crosbows
I mean it doesn't need to be realistic right?

Muskets...

You aimed somewhere over there, and now have to spend 15 seconds reloading (or 10 if you're British and inherently awesome) and still no guarantee you hit it!

Would kind of suck really, wouldn't it?
The player could use a rifle, the more accurate, longer ranged and sexier cousin of the musket. The player could also be thrown into melee situations.

I think a Victorian era shooter would be good.

I would also like to see World War I put into FPS form but not focused on gun play. Maybe make the player a field doctor or a messenger?

I agree totally. The gameplay should never ever be sacrificed for misplaced stress on originality. There's a good reason why WW2 games are generally favoured over Victorian-era FPSs. The fact is, most areas of history just aren't feasible to adapt into a video game (if you're going for a faithful adaptation and don't want some sort of magic system in it, or something).

The only one I can think of is some sort of stealthy Far-Cry-esque Vietnam game, and that probably wouldn't tick the 'action' box that is required in an FPS.

Why do we have to be obsessed with what's already happened? What's this obsession with historical re-enactment? Why can't we historical pre-enactment. What about the Conflict For Mechanical Advantage Six? The Third Moon Rebellion? The Jovian Exodus? What are any of those things? I have no idea. And that's the best part.

Shellshock 2 is supposed to be a horror FPS based on the experimental drugs used in the Vietnam War. Could either be really shite, or the product of Full Metal Jacket making sweet love to Jacob's Ladder and birthing a video game.

I like the way you shoot.

You have to watch ScrewAttack's The Scoop! to understand the reference.

It propably turns out mediocre, and while the idea isn't that bad, i'd rater have a vietnam game showing the horrors of the War itself. (COD 4 was on to something there...)

CoD: Neolithic Wars

You can work your way up from stone tip spears to bronze tiped spears as you gain rank.
