What ever happened to coop?

I don't mean online coop. I mean local multiplayer, splitscreen, etc. I remember when I didn't have a proper pc or console I would go over to my friend's house and play splitscreen on tony hawk's underground 2, or halo on the original Xbox. I had a ton of fun, even though I sucked.

And when I think about it, there aren't that many games nowadays that feature local coop. Everything has become online, and I miss the option of sitting down with a friend and going splitcreen.

If I'm wrong, then can someone reccomend a good game (for the ps3) that features local coop?

Used to play Earth Defense Force 2017 with my brother for hours. Kicking alien ass with a blowtorch never gets old.

Little Big Planet 2 for PS3.
Meh. Not that interested in that one.

Actually, I was looking at skate 3 thinking it would be an awesome party game, but to my dismay...no splitscreen. I is sadness.

I have to agree; playing online multiplayer with people you don't know has never really held much appeal for me, and it is SO much more entertaining to play games with friends when you are actually in the same room together.

Killzone 3, has splitscreen local co-op campaign. Although you can't play Botzone with two players which is annoying.

There's quite a few PSN titles that are split-screen or shared screen. Disc-based titles, though, and you're more or less limited to the occasional Sports title, the Little Big Planets, Guitar Hero, things like that. The Wii is a lot more couch friendly, though.

This makes me miss Midway. If they were still around, we could send them a storm of letters about releasing a Gauntlet title again, one that features classic shared-screen capabilities.

I've been trying to find a game me, my dad and my little brother(11) can play together. Split-screen Co-op, not against. Halo/COD/Rock Band were the only games I could find where we could all play at the same time. Aegis Wing, and Castle Crashers is boring after about 15 min so I don't count them. The thing is, I'm just much better at FPS obviously so I am running around trying my best to keep my little brother from getting too frustrated and my dad a sense that he's mastering the controls little by little. My little brother hates rock band, I tried him on the guitar then drums then keyboard. My dad likes it, we can play and listen to bands he remembers from his youth, but I just want something we can all play together.

If any of you know of a game that can run on Xbox360, that allows splitscreen co-op campaign, or anything where we're on the same team. PLEASE give me a shout. (I have a PS3 but the $$ that a PS3 controller costs is ridiculous, and it's not my main console.)

Edit: Also, trying to teach parents how to manipulate both joysticks for a FPS is so close to impossible, that it's borderline amazing. They tend to stick to one and turn or move and not turn at all.

Awww, I clicked on the post, expecting to discuss about the nature of coops, the little wire houses that chickens live in. Well, this is disappointing.

To actually talk about co-op, though, it's probably to expand profits. If four people play split-screen to one copy of the game, game developers believe they lost three potential customers, rather than gaining three potential customers (those who played it at a friend's house and buys it because they liked the game). It's the same logic with piracy.

Dude I feel you haha I was like hell yes I'll talk about chicken coops all damn day! then I realized it was about co-op haha.
OP: although it is an FPS Borderlands has excellent two player (sadly only two) co-op. It's easy to get into, and as it isn't too intense like the COD/Halo style of games you don't have to worry about your bro dying all the time. Plus it has some humor and is over the top enough to be fun to play.

Rainbow Six: Vegas and Splinter Cell: Conviction are the only games I can think of that I would recommend.

Only reason I play CoD BO is for the split screen multi-player. I still miss Ghost Recon though... that was a good co-op game.

Haha! You made my day with that post.

Anyway, I agree; I miss coop. I see it less and less. For example, I can't believe that the new Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit didn't have any splitscreen! That's ridiculous.

i miss split screen coop.

the last game i played coop was resistance fall of man. i was annoyed that resistance 2 didnt have coop.

i think the game companies believe that people dont have friends in real life that would want to play on the same console and tv.

it also doesnt make sense to me because back in the day when split screen was fairly common everyones tv was much smaller than they are today.

Black Ops. Personally the most fun Co-Op game i've played paired with Contra and Scott Pilgrim.
Zombies, Dead Ops, you can go kill bots together, play online together splitscreen. It's just got tons of options. Great fun.
