Well if darkest as in evil dark or as darkest of like sad, well for sad it would be Super Paper Mario's back story for the villains and Tippi.

That's not really very "dark", it's not overly emotional for the player, and the story is very loose at best.

I can't rememeber the name, but there was this game on Newgrounds. You only get one chance, you can't re-start the game.

Those 4 games Yahtzee made. The Trilby series or whatever its called (5 days a stranger; 6 days a skeptic; Trilby's notes; 7 days a... whatever it is). Those were some stange games.

Oh wait, the Minecraft caves are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay darker.

I always thought the ending of Arcanum was pretty bleak. Really haven't met any other boss that can convince me that it is for the best interest of all things to wipe out all life on the world.

I can never really play as the "good" guy without feeling I have betrayed myself.

Never played it myself, but some of the LPs for that game are quite hilarious.

Especially the reactions to the ending.

It certainly is wonderful. I played through it and got 100%; I really wasn't expecting it to end like that.

Also, goddamn Captcha, why are you invading this site too? I get enough of you on 4Chan.

Amnesia? That was pretty dark though horror games basically have to have a dark story otherwise they wouldn't be as scary... Hell someone tell Frictional Games to get to work on a game where everything is all cutesy and bright then WHAM unrelenting torment goooooooooooooooooo!

Final fantasy tactics mother fucker! The final boss is a stand in for jesus giving countless implications, like the in game church being disguised devil worship. Every facet of government are conniving asshats including one that rapes his ward, then taunts her about it during a fight, anything above local priest literally sells their soul to darkness and demons. The in game war was sparked by the church because indirect control of the world just wasn't enough, and these are so called "holy men." worse yet is the fact that the majority of the church seems to know, just doesn't care. And the absolute best you can do is save yourself and your sister while the rest of the world canibalise themselves for no better reason than they can. Darkest game I've played at least.

That I've played and can recall?
Amnesia's last quarter is associated with everything relating to the art of torture and the various ways of inflicting pain upon others.

Y'know, good, wholesome stuff like that.

Rule of Rose, however, is apparently in the same echelon of disturbance, though I can't comment on it, as I've not yet technically "played" it.

"The Path" was...

fairly disturbing, really. Chock-full of symbolism that makes you feel like an idiot for not getting.
