Okay, I know good movies based on video games have been quite rare, considering how in live-action Hollywood only has Prince of Persia under its belt.
But several animes have have actually adapted games into film reasonably well, such as Pokemon. plus many fan-made films like Fallout Nuka-Break actually turn out really, really good, so in a way, you could argue that making good movies based on games is difficult, but NOT impossible.
And I've also heard that Nintendo has recently expressed interest in doing a Legend of Zelda movie, granted, they said they'd want to make it interactive in some way if they went with the idea, but still.
Anyway, what game or game franchise do you think can most likely be adapted into a film?
My guess would be the Starfox franchise, since apparently Nintendo has lately been holding tight reins on their IP, any studio that would want to make the film would have to deathly avoid making drastic changes to the source material (I'm look at you, Super Mario Bros movie), plus, the fact the cast consists almost entirely of Petting Zoo People (look it up on TV Tropes) means you'd have to strictly use animation, be it CGI or traditional hand-drawn animation. Plus, the Starfox series has had enough sales for most people to already know about the franchise, so general audiences would expect a movie based on the games to be at least reasonably true to the source material.
As for how it could be a success, well, Starfox is known to be an action-packed, upbeat space opera, and when was the last time outside we really saw that? plus, the big selling-point for the movie can easily be the promise of intense and epic space-fighter dogfights, which I don't remember seeing in recent films. Plus the space opera setting already made the games fairly cinematic, so you should have plenty to work with.
It can be a space opera targeted mainly for kids and fans of the Starfox games (or even Nintendo in general), which by now are people in their 20's or maybe even early 30's, which I think has to be a decently large audience.
Anyway, what single game or game franchise do you think can be easily made into a successful film?
