What games did you take a chance on but ended up liking.

Yes this another one of those "What games insert obligatory personal response based on certain conditions thread".

For me it was Red Dead Redemption. As someone who wasn't all that fond of the concept of GTA and never actually played any Rockstar games before AND hating westerns and western themed things even though I live in Texas, I found the game to end up one of my favorites. enthralling characters and story took the forefront in this tale of vengeance.

What other games took you by surprise?

Batman Arkham Asylum - I bought it at the beginning of last year cuz everybody kept telling me it was good I went in a skeptic but came out a believer

Dynasty Warriors 7 - thought it was just a crazy button masher, borrowed it from a friend realized it was like the old school Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, Final Fight, etc. except in 3D and with crazy ass weapons/attacks

InFAMOUS - I honestly though it was GTA with powers so I never bothered with it until Sony gave it away for free, and then OMG I had missed out on an awesome game. I reserved 2 and have played through it 3 times already

Assasins Creed Brotherhood - again GTA in med evil times didn't really interest me, but I got it as a gift and lo and behold I've been hooked ever since

Dead or Alive 2 - 3D fighter didn't really sound cool but then I played it on Dreamcast, at the time and have followed the series ever since

Soul Calibur 2 - same as DOA 3D fighters just didn't appeal to me, then I saw the play style and it seemed simple yet deep enough, went and got it not expecting much and it suddenly turned into Samurai Showdown in 3D. I've loved this series ever since

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 since I never really play detective base story before. I saw a preowned copy of it which was very cheap so I bought it and I end up loving due to the story and the characters in it.

mount and blade warband, it sounded completely like something i would find boring...ended up loving it to bits.

Same here hated it cause I was in High School and couldn't afford it, finally could afford it played from end of bc till Firelands hit and said "I can't stand this"
