I just got my hands on a PS3, and I was wondering what I should get from the back-catalogue. For reference, I'm mainly into shooters and RPGs (but looking to expand my horizons) and I have virtually no interest in competitive multiplayer, so games like Mass Effect and Shadow of the Colossus are the order of the day. Also, to pre-emptively shut up anyone yelling "BAAAH get a 360 noob", don't bother. What do you think I've been doing so far :p So to be clear, I've got all the Xbox exclusives I'm interested in, and am looking for stuff on PS3 or both. I'm also not moving to the superior PC platform because I don't care for the costs.

Thanks guys,
/endrambling

PS Here's what I have/am certainly getting to avoid redundancy.
Mass Effect
Half Life/Portal
Skyrim
Assassins Creed 1
Shadow of the Colossus
inFamous
Resistance

Killzone 2 and 3 are brilliant, I won't go into explaining but they are the best shooters on the Ps3.

Heavy Rain is something different, but a moving experience none the less.

And Fallout 3 and New Vegas will also keep you busy for a while

And if you enjoy the games you have already listed, many have predecessors and sequels.

Hope that helps

Just so you know, in the long run PC gaming is a hell of alot cheaper than console gaming. Most of the upgrades aren't that expensive and would easily be covered by the massive savings on the games themselves. Just at retailers you save at least $10 - 20 every time, throw Steam in to the mix and your getting games up to 90% off.

OT: The Uncharted series is definitely something to have a look at. It's a kind of Indiana Jones sort of game. There's also God of War which is a great hack and slash kind of game. Also the recent HD remakes of some of the old greats that you should look into.

For rpg get 3D Dot Heroes. It's like the first Legend of Zelda but in fully 3D pixel form.

Infamous 2, better than the first one and that was an awesome game itself.
Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood, Revelations (which was okay in my book)
Killzone 2 and 3
Fallout 3/New Vegas
Deus Ex HR (if you don't have it for the 360 yet)

Do you have any of the Batman Arkham games?
Asylum and City are pretty awesome.

Check out the Resistance series. I can`t say much about the first since i haven`t played it but 2 and 3 are great (even if i prefer Killzone). Resistance features a interesting setting with a alternate history where aliens invade the earth and spread a virus. The weapons are a fun mix between old riffles and futuristic alienguns.

Edit: sorry overlooked resistance as your last named game.

Edit2:To contribute something: Flower. Relaxing psn game. Never played something like this before and it`s from the Journey guys(that game company), it`s cheaper than Journey too.

You play as the wind and direct a flower leaf over grass fields to collect other flower leafs.
(not sure if "flower leaf" is the right word)

Never had a console, but I've bought one PS3 game since my sister's man bought PS3 last year and I tend to visit them rather often:

I picked up a PS3 last summer to play exclusives so I'll tell you what I've found so far.

For shooting purposes:
Killzones 2 and 3 are fun
Medal of Honor if you can find it for about $10. The game's decent and the PS3 version has Medal of Honor: Frontline from the previous gen on it (a great game)
Uncharted: Think Tomb Raider meets James Bond and Gears of War

For RPGs you've come to the right place (although I'll be lumping action, JRPG, and tactical in one):
Demon's Souls
Disgaea 3 and 4
Atelier Rorona
Atelier Totori
Valkyria Chronicles

For hacktion (hack and slash action):
God of War series
No More Heroes simplistic but has a fun story

For your Japanese GTA feel:
Yakuza 3

If you didn't have a PS2 (and want to platform):
Sly Collection and Jak Collection are a must

And finally for unique experiences:
Little Big Planet 2 user-generated content means that once you beat the game there are about 5 million levels that are available online (some suck but there are real great gems out there too)
Heavy Rain all about quick-time events but they make it work and the story is great
