For me, I always wear these expensive headphones. Big ones, noise cancelling. They just broke today, so I'm fairly depressed. I'm getting more, but until then, I'm wearing them around my neck, like I did when they weren't actively in use.

Another one is my jackets, which I always wear in public, despite the temperature being high at times.

You'll also usually see me with a notebook, but not as much as my 'phones and jackets.

So, do you guys and gals on the Escapist have anything like that? If so, what is it?

Edit: My current jacket? Skeletonwitch's Soul Thrashing Black Sorcery jacket. Sadly, pics are hard to find outside of indiemerchstore. Just google indiemerchstore Skeletonwitch Soul Thrashing Black Sorcery, and you'll probably find it.

Nylon shirts from the 1970's and 80's. Ideally produced for St Michael (old M&S) or C&A.

I find myself preoccupied with the notion of authenticity, art and cycles of consumption and try to express this in my attire. Also I like nylons place in a post-industrial society its removal from traditional techniques of manufacture for me reflects the essence of the alienated modern self (in a Marxist sense). I deally drawing upon repetitive patterns which for me sit comftorably with the repetitive and controlled nature of work and modern life and the lines for me capture something of the fragmented nature of modernity.

Am I a bit of a tosser? Yes. Is this not the grounding of most if not all fashion/stylistic choice? Probably. But it allows me to create and express a sense of self outside of paid employment. If I was to try and define myself through my work I would be even more unhappy and dissatisfied.

p.s. Sorry to hear about your cans, that sucks. I too am inbetween decent sets (currently using a pair of cheap in ear ones until I can afford to upgrade again.

Altama full-leather combat boots. They're perfect for every occasion, whether paired with dockers and a button-up shirt or ripped jeans and a Manowar t-shirt.

Regarding the temperature issue, the boots were a bit of a trial in India last year when the temperature reached 49 C...

I wouldn't say that I let anything I wear define me.

I do however, like dress well, smart jeans with a polo shirt or button up shirt, and a jumper if it's a bit cold. I don't really ave accessories, but i think i could do with a nice watch. Nothing too fancy, but something with a mite of class :p

That's only when I'm out though, in the house I just wear tracksuit bottoms and whatever old t-shirt is at hand.

The open button-down shirts I wear. My collection of pendants and chains. I'm thinking of getting a hat soon so I can change my look again before summer really sets in.

This thread makes me sad. I find it hard to believe that mere stuff could define anyone.

I'm not trying to be a dick, just expressing my oppinion.

I'm almost always wearing something with the Arizona Diamondbacks logo on it, often two or more things at once. If I'm not wearing something Diamondbacks-related, its usually a mistake. Its fairly easy to accomplish since its extremely windy wear I live and my only windbreaker is a Diamondbacks windbreaker

I don't think OP means in that way. Not in what defines you as yourself, but more what outwardly and visually differentiates you from say, the person next to you, what thing is usually worn/carried that would identify yourself from others.

(Speculation, could be wrong.)

On a very broad scale, hats and jackets/coats. More specifically, a collection of Watchmen-badge-bearing trilbies, a Stetson, an RAF trench coat, a black denim duster coat, a pair of Edwardian-style jackets, and a blazer inspired by 'The Prisoner'. Accessory-wise, a sort of... segmented ring... thing which covers the finger and ends in a blunt claw, a chameleon arch fob watch, and a pair of seldom-worn (but memorable for eccentricity) domino masks. I'm also known for wearing black skinny jeans, but I don't have a specific pair or style which I adhere to, so that's not quite the same. Oh, and a Motorhead messenger bag. Can't forget that.

my digital watch (either a Casio G-Shock or Casio F-91)
my denim jacket
my iPhone (I use it daily for pretty much EVERYTHING except calling)
my hipster-ish glasses (they kinda look like hipster glasses but the lenses are wider and shorter)

My collection of 74 Wristbands, you know to ones which you can buy at festivals with the name of the festival and year/edition of said festival. I never ever take those off.

My hat.

It's a fedora/ trilby that I bought from an old hattery. It's a perfect in pretty much every social situation, it's comfy, and it has the neat capacity to have other hats neatly stack onto it, so I can be festive without sacrificing my awesomeness.

I agree. I am not what I own, I am not a thing, and I definitely not an accessory.

My baseball cap. I'm barely ever without it. Been wearing one everyday for 5 years now and I don't think I'm gunna stop anytime soon.
