I just want to know if anybody can tell me what happened to all the good console games? I was looking in the local blockbuster to see if there was a game that could give me a slight bit of stimulation, because even Call Of Duty W.A.W online can get a bit tiresome :O, and I realized that there was not 1 game on the 360 that was worth £40 of my hard earned cash...
WHAT THE FUDGE!!!
Why is it game designers think they can bring out a shitty game and just because its got a gimmick expect people to pay £40 for it...
one example that springs to mind is mirrors edge

it annoys me that the last good single player game i played was the download of max payne off of the xbox market...what happend to console gaming when there was an array of awesome titles instead of the mediocraty they give us now

Why not spend less money on an older release? It's a bit dismissive to state that's there's nothing out there. I won't pay full twat for a game either, especially as they do seem to be getting shorter.

what's wrong with COD Modern warfare, or maybe Fallout 3 and possibly halo, although that might stir up an argument!

And you should always shop around, you should never pay top 'dollar' for your game

oh yeah thats really the point of my thread...why is it older games are of a better quality, as i said the last game i enjoyed was max payne from the 90s...apart from cod and gta the game i last loved was the original c.o.r.
i just think game designers are getting lazy and looking to make a fast buck rather than a quality game

Good games are still there.

I hate people like you. You act like the quality of games have suddenly dropped. Here's a news flash; the old gaming generations had their share of shitty games.

i got to 10th prestige on cod 4 so i got a bit bored playing johnny come latelys...
to be fair fallout and assassins creed are 2 of the few modern games that are actually captivating and worth money...but for every fallout there are about 50 games that will be forever condemned to the 3 games for £10 bin

and i refuse to pay any money at all for most of the games out now...especially not £40 :)

Maybe it's because they can't keep coming up with new ideas that work for games. They've exhausted all the good ideas already, so it's either attempt something that might not succeed or do the same thing as an older game.

And I thought I wouldn't bring up Half-Life 2 as I'm not sure if that exactly counts as a new or old game. I still like it, whatever the case.

Because of nostalgia.

Also, because as things go on, we beceome exposed to more ideas, more stupididties, and are generally more aware of certian nuances of gaming. As such, we become less impressed. I remember when I thought that storyline should ome before everything...

Then there's the gaming market. Whether people like it or not, Gaming is now a major Industry. And that means that in it will come the "quick buck developments" and the more it is proen to be successful, the more it will be done to milk success.
Of course, this process is only benefitted when they make games that appeal to non-gamers like what Nintendo is doing. As the number of gamers grow, the greater in proportion the new and impressible gamers become to the Seasoned Vets who've "seen it all before." This allows them to milk even more money from the same cow as the newer generation will be more resiliant to repetition.

Well, what sort of gaming are you looking for? And what have you played on the new consoles. If anyone can sort you out we can.

Are you sure you're not just having a 'can't be bothered with gaming' phase. We've all been there.

I think you need to listen to Yahtzees definition of 'nostalgia'.

Think it's this one: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/222-XBLA-Double-Bill

i think its more of a nostalgia

call me old fashiond but i just like to have a character with a depth to him and a good story that takes longer than a day to complete and has re-play value...the whole concept of re-play value has now gone because developers try to get the story over and done with as quickly as possible to make way for the online...at least in my opinion...

im thinking of trying stranglehold out because it looks like a good story

You ever notice how, in period movies (movies set in a certian time period, like the 80s,) if there's a radio, it only plays hits instead of songs that actually played back then?

That's kind of how it is. Looking back, you can see all of the "hits" together and you think "Well how come they had all the awesome games?"

They didn't. You just forgot the shit.
Pretty much this.

Older games tend to do better beacuse they withstood the test of time before falling into obscurity.
