Well, today I was on the bus and a guy that tried to get up tripped as the bus started moving, and the guy in across from me (sideways seating) said "haha f**king nice) and I was kinda irritated by that, (I was helping the guy who tripped back up which will lead to what he said next) so anyway I get back in my seat after I helped the guy, and what do you know the guy across frfom me calls me gay, for helping someone up, what happened to maturity, also a while back a kid who badmouthed others was about to get his ass kicked (by someone clearly much stronger) so I tried and succeeded at breaking up a fight nobody else tried to (there were onlookers that I had seen breaking up fights between other people before and it should be noted I didnt like this badmouthing kid either, but to get his ass kicked in a fight against someone clearly stronger, thats unfair) but people all stared at me with that "what the fuck?" look on their faces, It saddens me, even if you dont like/know someone shouldnt you help them in need? I remember when I was young I was always told to "smarten up" or "act more mature" and now that I am in the point of my life where I should be acting mature, it seems I am shunned for it, even by those who TOLD me to act more mature, I dont get people, what happened to maturity?

EDIT: I guess it should be noted, the fight was already well into it and the kid was hurt enough, no need to kick a guy while hes down, I'm sure he learned his lesson considering since then the kid has toned down dramaticaly

I always try to be polite and mature both in speech and in action, and it makes me angry when others disrespect me for it.

People are dicks, no way around it. Though it seems more like your talking about courtesy than maturity.

It's a personal thing everyone needs to make for themselves. You cant force someone to be mature, but you can skew everyones opinion of the other to make them look like a complete ass-hat.

Same here, I'm glad there's still some honor and civility out there beside myself.

You see, I'm the sort of guy to chuckle but help him up at the same time. Maybe help him laugh at himself and brush it off. But the second I saw that he was actually hurt, I'd help him get somewhere he could get medical assisstance.

Isnt being courteous (sp?) part of maturity?, And to yeah helping people out apologizing for misdeeds and the like thats courtesy, maturity is not laughing at something like that, and not insulting someone for DOING THE RIGHT THING, it just grinds me that all the people I see are, well, dicks

The smart mouth kid that you stopped from getting stomped just got a free pass to do more of what you are complaining about. If more people got face stomped for acting that way, it would happen far less. Maybe if you had let him get swatted once and then broke it up he might think twice before doing it again. Otherwise, you just helped perpetuate the very thing you are dismayed about.

I have the same problem, I'm the only one who notices the old man struggling up stairs / onto the train with his suitcase and goes to help out. Everyone else ignores it.

I don't interfere generally unless it affects me or I'm bored. Also if it has to do with chavs, I dislike chavs strongly, luckily chavs are weak pricks who get intimidated easily.
