I miss push-button codes. Now, I don't think every game needs them, but most sandbox games shoul bring them back. Honestly, I'd be fine with the idea that you couldn't progress through the story after you put the codes on. I mean, going through Just Cause 2 with infinite ammo and invincibility, just causing a bunch of damage and death would be fantastic, regardless of progressing the story.

some games like GTA they work for but others they destroy the challege. So yes bring them back for sandbox games only after you have beat the main game just so you can mess about.

I personally would like more cheat modes in games in general, especially FPSs, CoD4 had cheat mode and that was limitless fun, and plenty more would benefit greatly from it, the other CoD's to name a few.

I think achievements killed the concept of them. It's pretty much a given that if your game is going to have cheat codes, those codes have to be programmed to lock certain achievements, lest the entire system become broken. I think most developers probably just don't see the point in it. Of course, most developers don't see the point in split-screen multiplayer, either, and they're dead wrong about that, too.

This console generation could learn a lot from the last console generation, I think.

Dead Space had some that you could get credits and power nodes. However, they only worked once per playthrough.

The refill Air and Statis could be used however many times you wanted though.

OP, you do realise you CAN go through JC2 with Infinite Ammo and Health by running a trainer (Though I suspect OP is a console user and thus cannot run trainers :p).

trainers can be doggy, because the trainer modifys the data which is in memory it can often not work and often causes the program to become unstable..

even on top of that they are one straw short of being malicious if you so happen to open a bad .exe unless of course you make them your own.

Indeed, in short they are a pain in the ass to deal with in general.

DLC/Achievements also played a role in killing them. Things that used to be unlocked through codes can now be downloaded or unlocked with achievements.

Yeah. My PC kind of crapped out. So I am console bound currently. Even this message is via my PS3.

The whole money making business of codes through magazines and guides is lost due to internet publishing.
That explains where the mags went, but not why developers don't still put codes in games. And plenty of games still have strategy guides. I saw one for Red Dead the other day.

Well congratulations using that gamepad to type effectively.

Seriously, I lost my mind trying to write a paragraph...
