Why have rts games been so dumbed down to not even having bases anymore like in Dawn of War 2. Dawn of War 2 is fun but it just isn't like a normal rts game. Even supreme commander was dumbed down so much it wasn't even very fun to play.
So if any of you guys have any rts games that still are rts games please post them because i sure haven't seen any good ones in the past year or so :(

Well, I know there are less being made every year. I can't even remember one this year. Maybe DoW2 Retribution but yeah, It's sad :(
More shooters and less RTS's. This hurts me as an RTS lover.

R.U.S.E. is fun. Think it's from 2010. Tis a bit like World in Conflict.

I don't know. Try modding Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. It's a great way to extend the life of a game!

Generally RTS games can be hard to market. When an RTS fan finds something he/she likes, they tend to stick to it, modding and trying out various modes, rather than instantly moving onto the newest game... at least in my experience.

And finally, RTS games are, in my opinion, far better when played against human opponents. The life of a game can be extended indefinitely with a good playing community or some friends. Maybe it's time for you to have an old-fashioned LAN party?

Because RTS games don't really work on consoles, which in today's market is basically a death sentence.

Because after 20 years they want to evolve. The model popularized, pretty much, by Westwood's Dune2 is pretty old. In 90ties, You had tons of clones of C&C and Star/WarCraft that all played pretty much the same but just simply lacked the level of polish the big studios put in their products.
Now it's pretty much only Blizzard that sticks to the exactly same design while other companies try new things with the genre, sure not always they work perfectly, but You have to fail few times to eventually find the formula.

Thing is, with how MMOs been expanding over last years, companies are now trying to focus on the whole MMORTS formula, which i'm not sure i'm liking. By adding the persistent and, perk unlocks and levelling into a game like that pretty much ruins it's chances of being proper competitive esport.

On a side note, DoW2 was never supposed to be pure RTS. It was more of RTT (Real Time Tactical), trying to imitate the tabletop in a real time strategy setting and lack of bases wasn't really the only reason why the multiplayer scene didn't stick to it.

Well games evolve, that's about it sometimes it's for the good and sometimes it's not, sometimes you will like it and sometimes you will not. I have seen the death of C&C, both tiberium and red alert universe, but the direction DoW went I actually really like. Supreme Commander and me have never seen eye to eye because I have the feeling that all the units share their IQ that means if I make more then 10-15 of those stupid fucks managing them turns into nightmare. Starcraft, while it is pretty much the same, the changes they made also made it even less accessible to everyman. A game I'd recommend for you is JTF (Joint Task Force)it plays similar to World in Conflict the only drawback is the story which is in the lack of a better word kinda Modern Warfareish and of course online is non existent.

Consoles. most of the genres are being dumbed down to be acessible for console gamers.
as a strategy gamer i see a big decline in RTS genre. it seems that blizzard be the only comany that has not messed up yet.
theres nothign wrong with online arena fight style, but dont make it the only style.

you might wanna check out a tiny game called starcraft 2....
Beat me to it! damn

And also people are making more Arena based strategy games, the dominant ones are League of Legends and Bloodline champions at the moment, give them a try, I most certainly am enjoying them (Hence the Ranid assassin avatar :3 )

But, DOTA 2 will probably smash them out the way when its in full release haha
