Pretty much this. The company's relocating to the West coast and dropped a fair part of the staff in the proses. Expect people who used to be at the other gaming site Defy media owned before shutting it down to make an appearance soon.

Yeah, it just seems weird that a bunch of content creators got dropped and the news has slowed considerably, and yet the Escapist hasn't bothered to throw up an article explaining "Hey, there were/are/going to be some big changes around here". Instead, everyone knows what happens(or most of us do) but from other sites. Like the escapist is trying to pretend nothing happened or something.
