As time goes by, and we age, our perspective on life and the things we like usually inevitably change. What are some things from your childhood that you were attached to that you grew out of? I'm not talking just material things either, it could be perspective, attitude, anything like that.

On the flip side of the coin, what are some things/beliefs that you still hold dear from your childhood?

You know, I used to be a real smartass liberal. I was always right, and I would use my circular logic to eventually tire out anyone who tried to debate me. I bucked all tradition, and disagreed/hated anything popular just because it was popular, and I wanted to make myself seem deep and mysterious. I was a flat out terrible person most of the time, but as I aged, I found myself in positions of more responsibility around more responsible people, who I learned from and eventually came to respect. Now, I am a husband, a Dad, and can you believe it, a conservative. It's funny how things can totally make a full circle in your life.

As far as things I never put away, besides games, I still try very hard to help out my community, and try to volunteer at least twice a month to help people that are less fortunate. And, I still collect wrestling action figures. I hate it when people call action figures dolls.

So Escapist, enough of me, I turn to you!

I grew out of wetting the bed, crying and screaming quite young. I guess I have grown out of the attitude I used to have for money. I was once quite insatiable in my quest for more and more and was lining myself up to be another investment banker... And a few life changing things happened, and I just look at my point of view back then without the slightest idea of why money seemed so important.

I will never grow out of complaining for the hell of it.

Ive grown out of JRPG's. I can think of no other explanation of why I came to dislike them after being a final fantasy fan.

Being too interested in something and stopping because it wasn't something easy. I want to think I have grown out of it.

Currently I'm thinking about building a miniature, functioning airship, I really want to build one to prepare me for building one able to lift people in 10-20 or so years, I still have to inform myself of the availability of all the materials and I fear I'll try to get out of this idea once I know the difficulty to obtain some of those things.

Of course I won't spend much over ?100 for something as useless as that, so if the price is too high I'll be justified to delay it.

The back-up plan would be to make a "doomsday device", push the button and a countdown starts while flickering leds cause some distraction, perhaps the box will change of colour too, and at 0 you'll hear some high-pitched Power/glam Metal cry or something.
That requires some tinkering with a Microprocessor too and should be a bit cheaper.

What I haven't grown out of: I can pick up Pokemon Red and still have a good time. Mostly for the good ol' 'lulz' and nostalgia though, but still. Also Lego's, even though I simply can't play with Lego's any more (I lack the child-like, innocent creativity I used to have), I can't wait until I can play with Lego's again when I have a son some day, hopefully.

What I have grown out of: powermetal. I have never listened to it a lót, but I still can't believe I used to listen to Dragonforce...

I've changed by being a hell of a lot more sociable than I once was... I used to be a rather socially challenged boy, I didn't know how to properly communicate with other people because of my Asperger Syndrome.

Nowadays I know how to act properly in a social situation a lot more... though, I have been becomming a lot quieter in the past year or so, mainly due to my new school.

I haven't grown out of circus skills. I've been doing it since I was 10, and I'm not about to stop now! XD

I'll never grow out of being a nerd. Star Wars, Fallout, intricate universes with their own histories! I can't not learn about them. Except Star Trek. I watch three episodes and still no appeal.

Magic the Gathering, anime, manga, video games and I have no intention of growing out of them :p

I'm also a lazy brat who loves having people do things for him.

I've grown out of hating children. Now I hate them with a passion.

I haven't grown out of knowing bits of random trivia and quoting them. I am also apparently the only person in my politics class who watches West Wing. So much for interest in the subject eh?
