So i was thinking about the upcoming announcement and a crazy thought appeared.

What if Sony did a radical shift in the Playstation and convert it into an upcoming Steambox product? Allowing us to enjoy the Sony Franchises on Steam and also have the living room solution to gaming and entertainment? It would also allow the Playstation services to keep on working in conjunction with Steam.

I know it would never happen but it would be amazing and wouldn't come right out of left field since Sony and Steam worked together before...even if it was just Portal 2 haha. *shrug* just a thought

You have it right there, it would never happen. If it was a Steam Box it would have to be open architecture and Sony wouldn't be able to charge a license fee for games on it.

I can't see it happening, but it would be nice if it integrated Steam more. However as Rack said they couldn't make money from the licenses which would mean they would have to charge else where, either a more expensive console or some other hidden fees that they will make up.

I want to be able to play used games. Steam hardlocks all disc-based Steam games to your Steam account and it's against the Steam EULA to try and circumvent this. So no, I don't want this.

And besides maybe devs will start speccing their game so it deliberately runs on a steambox, but I want the game to work and work as designed, and the Steam selection of games isn't so designed for a controller as the normal Sony run.

And finally, I don't know if I want Valve to dominate in _two_ markets. There's a limit to how big you can be before you start becoming evil. There's a limit to how many employees exist in the world who are the right sort of people for Valve to employ, so Valve don't need all the money. Just sufficient

I wouldnt be keen on the idea I am not to fond of steam and the steambox has failed to sell itself to me so far it seems expensive for what it is which seems to be a smaller PC with fewer bits, the only thing I like about it is that it is pushing for Linux over windows.

I am interested to see what Sony have on their own to be honest its the games that are important though really more than the hardware which is also why I see little point in the Steambox why buy another expensive piece of hardware to play games that you can play on your PC?

and as BrotherRool already stated above having Steam or Microsoft dominate in two markets is bad very very bad well for the consumer anyway, its great for the company.
