How does one define geek? Is it interests such as comics, manga, anime, video games etc that does so? Or is there also some inherent behaviour in geekdom such as fanboyrism? Personnaly ,I believe it's simply the interests, there being many kind of geeks (comic geeks, video games geeks etc), but they are all geeks nonetheless. As you answer this question, please feel free to elaborate on the pejorative (or not) nature of the term or if you were discriminated against for being one.

I'm glad to call myself a geek. And it's easy to tell I'm a geek if you were to take a look at my room.

I would say it is the interests. I cant say that I've ever been discriminated agaisnt for being a 'geek'. And even if I did, I dont see why I would care. I think of myself as more of a nerd than a geek though.

A geek is a vague description, it can mean a fan or follower of anything, not just comics or video games or whatever. I consider myself a music geek. My friends are all movie, music, and video game geeks. There are sports geeks too. Nothing wrong with it anyway.

I think I'm technically a nerd, but always call myself a geek.

And proud, dammit!!

With me it's kind of a general knowledge of 'geeky' stuff, not comics so much, but gaming, Star Trek, Star Wars, sci-shows. I like to be a geek of all trades.

Me and my friends described geeks n' nerds like this:

Geek: A human being that has a high IQ, and has an obsessive profession of playing games, reading books, etc.

Nerd:: A human being that follows the traits of the aforementioned Geek, but with a smaller, almost minuscule IQ.

I would call myself a Geek, but not down here ("down here" being N.C). Admitting your geekiness in public down here is about the same as being black before the Civil War (thank god i wasn't born during those times.)

A geek is one of those dysfunctional retards who bite the heads off chickens in carnival freak shows.

The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as "a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc."

Nerd (pronounced /ˈnɜrd/) is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests rather than engaging in more social or popular activities.

Wikipedia is a cool dude he fights aliens and doesn't afraid of anything.
It is a shame that wikipedia doesn't teach grammar. It seems that everyone has at least one Hamartia.

Geek: Wears pointy ears to sci-fi conventions.
Dork: Think Urkel from family matters.
Nerd: The type of person who would bother to define geek, dork and nerd.

Depends on how you intend to use the word, but I would say it's the interests, and with that in mind...I suppose I'm a geek by my own logic.
