I know, sounds like a stupid question, and it probably is. But I'm curious.

If I like a game I'd much rather be playing it than discussing it.

If I don't like a game I've got far better things to do with my time than discuss it online with strangers.

Am I missing something here? Not trying to knock anyone, if you enjoy being on gaming forums good for you. I'm just curious as to what you feel the appeal to be.

well it really helps to decide what other games to buy and well other than that pretty much all forums are social places as well. why get on any forum? I like hearing what other people with some of the same interests think about some things and well its all for fun :)

Well, maybe you really like a game, and have finished it, but still like talking about it - but hey, nobody you know is a huge fan of the game. Thus, you seek out people like yourself on the internet, and odds are going to a gaming forum is where you're going to find people who share your interests. Plus, gaming forums can develop into more complex places of discussion - kind of what the Escapist has done.

I believe the point is is that this is a typical forum, but we all have something in common. It makes for a more tight-knit community then a regular forum.

Anyway, it's not really all about the games here, there's off topic and forum games and things like that as well. Gaming is just what brought us here.
Sorry Furburt but:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! *waves armes around*.

Anyway, I agree with you. We all have something in common. It makes it easier to have a discussion which can lead to some interesting debates, both gaming related and about other issues.

Because where the hell else am I gonna talk about video games? Outside of the Internet I'm totally non-geek and the only games my friends want to discuss are Madden and Halo because most of my friends are frat-boy/jock types.

To bring together many like minded individuals in a Utopian wonderland of puppies and cookies!

And to talk bout games n stuff, after all who is to say you cannot play and chill on the forum at the same time. Multitasking, yeah!!!!

You can find people to play with here, but mostly for what SimuLord said.

My friends only play WoW and Fifa, neither of which is TF2.

If you need help with a game, wanted peoples opinions on a certain game, you felt like something in the game next talking about.

There are a lot of reasons to have it.

Its all about getting your geek on.

Enjoy the ride.
You can say anything you want, and this fabulous poster probably summed it up, so, without further ado, and apologising for doing so, I must say ... This^^ and offer nothing else to the thread because it is already summarised.

I mostly use the gaming forums to ask for help when I'm stuck on a particular bit on a game. I don't post just asking random questions about games for the most part, I see it as a practical thing.
