What is the point of even buying games anymore?

slight rant, but I pre-ordered New Vegas as soon as I saw it on Steam quite a while ago, eagerly awaiting for it to "unlock" I was getting slightly irritated that people who downloaded the game illegally were playing it before I was even though I actually spent money. So the game finally unlocks on steam, yet I still can't play it. It's unlocked yet refuses to let me play and still comes up with the pre-load options; so people who illegally got this game are allowed to play it 2 days before I am and payed nothing for it, what are the benefits to purchasing games when people who don't pay for it get more benefits than I do?

Are you really that impatient? Honestly, that's just pathetic. If people just stop buying games, games will stop coming out period and you'll no longer have any games to pirate. Try being a little patient.

I feel your pain, that has happened to me many times.

I buy games in the hope that they make more games like the ones I buy. Every sale goes towards the idea a sequel or something similar should be produced. that's just me, I might be wrong, but this time, don't correct me. I like this train of thought.

There is no point. Buying games just means your subsidizing others who don't feel they should have to pay for it. Your playing by the rules and getting punished for it...

Umm... yes?

Do you like to play games? Do you want developers to continue to make games?

Then buy games!

If you buy non steam games on steam then your a bloody fool...

Sorry but even fans of Valve know not to buy steam if there is a disk version.

You get:
Better deals
Constant access
DLC is not forced at high prices
...errmmm... Most of all though... NON-STEAM GAMES ON STEAM ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS TO MOD. Seeing as your on a computer, that would have been a option, if bought on disk.

Some people pirate games: the price of games goes up for those that buy it
Most people pirate games: games stop getting made

Moral of the story: if we all pitch in and stop being cheap pricks, we actually make it better for ourselves.

In a single word:

No!

But the kind of games would definatelly change - i.e. no more tenthousands to millions of dollar budgets. But games will always be made as long as there are people interested in games.

My proposal:
PLAY only the kind of games that you wish to play, INCLUDING considerations how you are serviced and treated by game creators and publishers.

I for example play mostly freeware games - not because i do not wish to pay for games, but instead because the amount of commercial games that interest me is low (i own a few, but they're a minority).

game devs and publishers really need to make it so that buying the game is more convenient than pirating, with no drawbacks.
