so I just got a random pop up that says TO VIEW THIS PAGE INSTALL THIS PLUGIN

Its stuff like that that makes me wonder who creates these stupid things and who is dumb enough to fall for them so what have you seen before?

I hardly ever look at them.
But the recurring one and only one I ever clicked was one about being the 1 gazillionth something person to come to the site.

The "You have a virus! Protect your computer by installing this anti-virus" pop-up was the most successful.

Running WINDOWS VERIFIED virus scan...

*bar fills up*

WINDOWS VERIFIED virus scan has found 18737527 viruses on your computer!

WINDOWS RECOMMENDS YOU DOWNLOAD VERIFIED VIRUS REMOVER NOW!!!

(This is actually a combination of about 20 different popups I've seen, that were all similar enough to merge in my head.)

The sad part is, people really fall for this stuff.

Ninja'd, but you'd be surprised at how many people actually fall for this kind of crap. This is why I don't let anyone use my computer unless I'm sitting there with them.

The one where it "turns" your internet browser to look like an old "My Computer" saying you have 1,293,745[footnote]Number may be exaggerated.[/footnote] viruses.

Any popup that has the Windows "close window" button on it. You know, the popups that pretend they're Windows system alerts, so when you try to close them, you end up clicking on them.

These are stupid because I'm on a Mac. Kind of a giveaway that I'm not going to be getting any Windows system alerts. :p

The one where it tries to look like a Windows popup message on an old Windows "My Computer" screen saying that you have a bunch of viruses... which was really rather obvious to me because I'm using a Mac.

Not a virus but, do you ever see those "YOUR PHONE CAN BE X-RAY GLASSES!!!" ads that are obviously scams? They usually feature an attractive woman who is wearing clothes, partially overlaid by a phone and the phone's screen is showing what is supposedly under her clothes (Always have underwear though for some reason...)
I saw one once where the woman in question was quite clearly already just in her underwear. Now who's being fooled by that...?

You know those ads that can tell where you are?
They always pop up saying "Hello, would you like to know some night clubs in LONDON!?" (for example).

Well, before I had one that was supposedly a woman talking to me.

"Hey there, I saw that we lived near each other on your profile and wanted to know if youd like to meet up in... UNITED KINGDOM for a drink and maybe a little fun ;D"

You know it's probably trouble when the product being offered in a pop-up ad is a pop-up blocker.

I swear to God I've seen ads like that.

One popped up for me a couple weeks ago that looked like My Computer opened and an AV program was telling me I had malware or some such.

The reason it wasn't convincing? The My Computer window was from XP and I use Windows 7. Also, come on, it's not that hard to tell it's fake

The banner ads telling me to "Date the Rich!".
It's mostly because dating was the subject of the Questionable Content strips I was reading at the time.

There's also the "Woodbridge: Don't Buy Car Insurance" stuff. I live near that area, but nowhere in it.
Geez.

The stupidest I have encountered was the one that I almost fell for.

I was one my friend's mom's computer, and a notice pops up telling me there is a virus and asking if I want the virus protection program to take care of it.

I panic and tell my friend who walks over and points out the notice and desktop that I think I am on is actually in a Internet Explorer window

and I didn't notice =_=

The funny thing about those fake virus pop-ups is that they are all built to fake an IE environment. I use Chrome, so it really sticks out when it happens. Then again.. I haven't really seen it much at all since I started to use Chrome

not a computer one, but i frequently get text messages or SMS if your a yank, saying "we believe you could be eligible for compensation for the accident you had, text YES!"

now, it doesnt say what the accident was, or when it was, or whether i was employed, or if it was anyones fault. but yep, people still get the $/£ sign pop up in front of their eyes as soon as they see "compensation" and follow this shit through.

people's stupidity depresses me sometimes...
