What is the worst thing a game can do to gameplay, or story, or anything?

For me, it's two words: Unnecesary romance. Seriously.

Outside of being outright buggy to the point of unplayability?

Unskippable cutscenes. ESPECIALLY if the game has some sort of replay value like New Game+ or something. It is literally wasting hours of your time. Days if you play a lot of games like that.

Solutions are easy! Chrono Cross let you speed up time in New Game+. The World Ends With You lets you speed through dialogue like lightning by holding R when you replay older levels. I'm surprised at how few games include things like this.

Not having the option to turn off animations in particularly flashy/slow RPGs is another big annoyance.

being a Guide Dangit. I can take difficult boss fights, respawning enemies and a weak character, if the story is weak I'll ignore it for the gameplay. but forcing me to have to play with a step by step guide so I don't do something like open the third chest in the first dungeon and cause the ultimate weapon to disappear 20 hours of gameplay later is just fucking stupid.
