a few months ago, i bought monster hunter tri. after beating a few missions i decide to do online missions with other hunters. i kept on getting kicked by the other players then getting killed. going on forums, someone will say "come with us. well need a helping hand." then after getting into a mission with them, theyd all abandon me when a big monster came around and if i tried to follow their lead, theyd kick me down to make sure i got killed(and send insults to me through wii speak or usb keyboard).

i decided to trade it in to gamestop, there some jackass who was shopping there goes "you cant trade that in, you just didnt like it because you suck at all games. where do you live? im gonna break them all to make sure i dont play with you online." a feint stomp with my boot cast(i twisted my foot earlier and borrowed it from my dad) made him stay away. then last month, i decided to rent it to see if the troublemakers got weeded out. same problems. and usually whenever i explain why i dont like this series anymore, the main response? "you deserve it"

then recently i decided to start gaming on my pc, well a few games started running laggy or wouldnt even start(turns out i need a new graphics card), so i tried getting help online and you could probably guess where im going with this...

so i have to ask, why are people so violent acting towards other gamers who just want to have fun playing online?is it really worth it turning others away from series and genres?

and before you ask, no i wont play MH with you. im never playing it again

I don't know what to say. I've had a pretty troll-free run when asking for help with things. I would say maybe come here to ask for help. Anytime I have needed help with something, I come here and get good responses.

Seems like you've been having a bad combo.
When I play games people usually are awesome, sometimes we even discuss strategies and so forth with strangers AFTER the game.
But then again, I mostly play RTS games.

In general though, humans are a**hole, it's hard to find a decant man.

What do you mean by 'these problems?' Haven't you experienced people acting like assholes to you before?

the thing that gets me is the apparent need to not only beat someone at a game, but to humiliate them. A little good trash talk is fine, even fun. But you know who I mean, the idiots who feel the need to insult your mother or your intelligence cause they just killed you. Oh and teabagers. If I catch you doing that, I'll kill you no matter whose team your on.

Wow that is some pretty bad stuff. I've never had it that bad, and I've played MW2 online... Could it be mainly the MH audience is like that? Have you tried any other online games since?

"BACK TO YOUR BRIDGE. DADDY IS VERY ASHAMED OF YOU."

Confuses the crap out of them. Then I stopped playing online multiplayer.

This is why typically, I avoid online games; unless I can be assured I'll be playing with friends.

The only exception to this rule is World of Warcraft. But even then I somehow take the whole social aspect out of playing on a Roleplaying server...

welcome to the interweb???

internet = anonymous = acting like an asshole for fun

its kind of like a form of bullying, they enjoy the fact that others are suffering through their actions. just keep going at it until you find a frend that you enjoy playing with and then try and play most of the time with him and his frends. either that or start/ join a clan

some games just have more trolling jerks than other games

Then you've been lucky. The only safe game online I've ever played is TF2 and that's because I play on awesome servers.

Wow, that sounds harsh. I've never had that kind of problem. Sounds like you got unlucky with the trolls, there are normal people who just want to have a good time. Try some better forums, The Escapist community won't do crap like that.

You're playing online.

If I can't enjoy myself if single player, multi-player isn't worth my dead skin cells from yesterday.

MMORPGs do avoid this tendency by actually requiring you to do SOMETHING.

Just try saying, "I game on a mac and am happy with how things are for me."
I get tons of hate for liking my Macbook, but really, it all boils down to:
"You don't think how I think. You should think the way I think because: *insert reasons of varying rationality*. I don't care about your being happy with what you think, and I don't care that you haven't been insulting or encroaching on my beliefs. You're WRONG. I'm now going to insult you, your opinions, and your being happy with what you have because you're different from me."

Its primitive tribal instinct that just proves the perpetrator is narrow-minded and likely very insecure about their own being.

Just because it happens, doesn't mean that its right. I think the OP is trying to rationalize the irrational, because they really want to believe that humanity is better than this.
I know I'm guilty of such thought, too.

you just got the bad luck of running into douche bags if oyu want to have some fun online I would suggest TF2 (PC version) its not that heavy on the system and not that expensive

This actually happened? First of all, what you described that guy doing fits the legal definition of assault -- at least if you had reason to believe he'd carry it out. Second, it's a big WTF unless we're talking about some elementary school bully -- even middle school bullies aren't that dumb, and something tells me this wasn't just some kid anyway.

As for the rest of the post, I really haven't encountered what you're talking about. I've seen the occasional game that has been entirely given over to hackers, and I've seen the occasional rager, but nothing as widespread as you're describing. It may really be the game; for example, my roommate plays a lot of MW2, and I see more trashtalk in one session of that game than I do in a month's worth of any of the games I play.

Unless the forums you mentioned are /v/ and whatever the computer subforum of 4-chan is, in which case you were asking for it...

TF2 has a pretty great community the times I've played.

Guess you're just a tad unlucky with the people you ran into.
