Post your favorite game and genre and tell me why you like it so much, but don't give me dumb reasons like: its awesome. Mine is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time because i like getting away from life so I play a lot of rpg, and Ocarina is really immersive.

With lots of games the genres get really specific so I am going to keep mine general so I don't have one game in categories like adventure/platformer or sandbox/rpg. I am also not going to list reasons for every single game. You only get two.

jrpgs: Legend of Dragoon(nothing will ever be better than this), Final Fantasy(older ones), and Lost Odyssey.

Legend of Dragoon, what more is there to say? Lots! It was huge and level design was awesome. It was innovative requiring precise timing, while at the same time not being impossible. The plot was pretty good, essential for an rpg. It is a classic.

RTS: Starcraft
Balanced! It was so perfectly balanced. Do you have any clue how hard it is to have such unique races without once being overly powerful?

N-N-Nuclear Launch detected, strongest move in the game, but ghosts were so easy to kill.

Holy Crap! Zergling rush...oh they die really easily.

Protoss is so efficient, its easy, and the units are of such fantastic quality! Oh they are so gosh darn expensive. Ugh, I have to learn to master these spells if I want to win.

Survival Horror: Resident Evil 4, Silent hills.

Adventure: Zelda's and only Mario 64

I'm an RPG fan, but not of the turn-based variety. Games like Diablo, Fable, and Mass effect are my staples. This could stem from a desire to make my own character (I love making characters and then effectively writing a personality for them, the imagination is a powerful tool.) combining with my liking of having a sense of progress, both for the universe I'm saving/destroying and for my character him/herself.

I like RPGs, because leveling up is AWESOME. Seriously. I just love the feeling of satisfaction that comes with it.

I love RTS...s? I love the feeling of strategy and power you get from them. Also if InternetKraken was here, he'd say "Search bar!".

Dating Sims, because if I wanted to, I'd be able to join the army and be able to actually experience and FPS, I could go to a faire and experience an RPG. Fighting game? I could punch some random dude in the sreet. But I will never experience dating in my long life thus making thus games simulate something I could never achieve in real life.

Zelda: Majora's Mask sure beats the shit out of OoT. And I don't have a favorite genre, so much as the game's quality.

And this thread has been done to death I'm sorry to say. But I don't care too much.

This genre I only wish existed: First person survival horror massive multiplayer online role playing games. That would be my favorite genre. In which you form allies with people you meet online and set up your own defense quarters in a constantly expanding environment where you fight off the zombie horde and occasionaly other players or factions trying to steal your land or base. PvP mixed with PvE. The days in game only last an hour real time so for 30 minutes it's day and another 30 it's night. The daytime is when you gather your supplies and the night is when you board up and start fighting. With a ranking system that's determined on how many bases you've conquered and how many zombie hordes you've succesfully fought off.

My God, I need to start working on that game.

My favorite existing genre is the shooter.

I'm not really sure if I can pick one, but since I have to I'm going with Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2. Why?
It's Kain getting revenge on the Sarafan Lord and killing the vampires that betrayed him--and Kain is the most awesome anti-hero ever. The Gothic design is just amazing; I don't think there's a game that comes close to how great the setting in the Legacy of Kain games is. The characters are very well made, the voice acting is phenomenal. Kain's powers are just great and his attacks... The relationship Kain and Umah have is great too.
Kain killed Umah and I felt bad, I really didn't expect that to happen.

My favorite game genre would be adventure/RPG.

Third person shooters like 007: Everything or Nothing. I also like tactical shooters like GRAW or Rainbow Six Vegas.

Simply put, the JRPG genre is my favorite. Star Ocean Second Evolution, is my favorite game, rather than the original, due to the voice acting. I always enjoy a good love story.
