For me, it is a tie between the Mario RPGs or the Legend of Zelda series. So many good games in each franchise.

Great Gameplay
Great Music
Great Story
The self-aware humor (mario rpgs)

Don't you mean Daggerfall?
But yes, Elder Scrolls for me as well. Love the gameplay, love the lore.

Hopefully, Max Payne 3 will give the franchise its due, but at the moment I'm goin with Mass Effect. I don't care about the ending, the franchise taken as a whole was truly epic. Couple others;

Battlefield
Far Cry
Motorstorm

First thought was 'TW hands down'... but I'm one of those materialistic gits and I'm all for AC...

But then I realised how awesome the TW mods are that one game literally because about half a dozen...

Elder Scrolls

Because if you take the time to dig deep into the lore you will open a Pandora's box of pure madness and insanity.

Yes, yes I did mean Daggerfall. Thanks for the correction.

I'm playing Daggerdale as I type this .... it's not very good as dungeon crawlers (or dungeons and dragons) go.

Despite Square Enix' best efforts to run it into the ground, I'd probably say Final Fantasy. I have to narrow it down to I-X, but I can't find any series that I like that is comprised entirely of titles I like. The closest second example being Devil May Cry.

FF: Aesthetically pleasing, mechanically sound (Possibly save for the Junction magic system in 8) and the fact that Nobuo Uematsu is a god. Most of my PS1 era memory is made up of these games.

DMC: Grade-S Badassery. There's no other way to describe it.

Either the Half-Life/Portal or Fallout franchises. It's a bit hard to choose. The Elder Scrolls franchise has also grown on me quite a bit just for the bizarreness of its lore.

Half-Life. Has been one of my favourites sine it came out.
Legacy of Kain - it was the demo of Soul Reaver 2 that captivated me. And it didn't let go. Gosh, I must have played it a few dozen times and the gameplay is nothing really special. I believe you fight 6-8 enemies in total before it finishes.
Might & Magic and it's ilk...well some of it anyway (Dark Messiah...meh. Nothing really impressive). Mainly M&M and Heroes. Fuck, I love Heroes.
Worms - lots of humour and genuinely fun multiplayer.

EDIT: I forgot the Elder Scrolls series. I quite enjoy the lore. Also the games are solid enough for my taste. And I love the mods. I truly do. All modders get an internet from me.

Risen
Thief
ICO/SotC
The Elder Scrolls
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy

Already been mentioned, but the Ratchet & Clank series.

I know people say it's lazy for a developer to rest on their laurels, but I would happily play a new installment of the Ratchet & Clank series --with the exact same engine but just new weapons and levels-- every year for the rest of my life.

I would say:

Classic Sonic the Hedgehog
Uncharted
Assassin's Creed
Resistance
Bioshock
Pokemon (up to Gen 4)
Megaman X and ZX
Disgaea
Marvel vs. Capcom

...in particular order, of course.

Ratchet and Clank, GOW, Infamous.

Ratchet and Clank, because the levels and guns are fun as hell. The humour is very well done.

God of War, it really feels like an epic tale, and the combat flows so well.

Infamous. A comic book game which ends... Seriously, I loved the ending of Infamous 2 (good side), and they really improved the game over the first one.
