Anything Edgar A. Poe or H.P. Lovecraft

How can I compete?
I'll just have to agree, but note that I haven't read too much Lovecraft.

I'm very partial to Poe myself, but my favourite must be Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman. Though it does have some poems as well.

It's a really good collection of stories, poems and yarns.

Edit: There's even a Lovecraft inspired Sherlock Holmes story. Or a Holmes sort of story at least.

Seems like he's popular here.

Dubliners by James Joyce. The entire collection is simply sublime. "The Dead" ranks among my favorite short stories of all time.

I'd have to say The Complete Robot by Isaac Asimov.

Dude, you can't declare /thread on yourself. Someone else has to do it. It's the law of the internet.

I recently came across a collection of pulp fiction stories from the 30s. I really quite like it, great, simple stories.

The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories by Tim Burton.

Admittedly, not really short stories, but they're poems that have a premise and a conflict.

A lovely little collection of Joan Aiken called "Shadows and Moonshine". Only if you like fantasy, though.

All six volumes of Clive Barker's Books of Blood are fantastic. Barker is undoubtedly one of the most creative minds in the modern horror industry. The short stories in the Books of Blood are fantastic, and Barker even puts them all into the best framing narative I have ever seen. If you love horror, and are ready for splatterpunk at its best, you can not go wrong with the Books of Blood.

I like the Brothers Grimm, but... Yeah, Lovecraft kind of takes the thread.

So the rest of this thread is pretty much redundant. Bleargh.
