Mass Effect 1. (2 was good, but more for the gameplay & cinematics rather than story)
Elder Scrolls has some decent stuff somewhere in that giant of a thing
Planescape Torment, it was...personal, had unique way of exploring world [talking with the dead, and your items, remembering stuff from your previous life (wich occured in wierd situations, like while playing chess with prostitute)]
The game with the most unpredictable storyline for me would be Baldur's gate 2. It's probably my favourite because it was interesting, epic and had so many plot twists. I loved all the side plots too, since they were also well thought out, and usually there was alot of comic relief weaved in between all the darkness of the main plot
The storyline from final fantasy viii was always the one that got to me though - wasn't my favourite, but it holds so much nostalgia for me.
