The title pretty much says it all.

As for me It would be "Howdy Sports Fans." from a certain 1995 DOS Games (20 points for anyone who knows without googling the answer.)

So Escapist what is your favourite sound effect from any game you have ever played.

The headshot noise from Gears of War.

SOOOOOO satisfying. Also the Cha-ching XP gain noise from Fallout 3/New Vegas.

Whenever I finish a section from L4D2, the generic rock is so... generic, but its to do with Skinners box theory. Most of these posts I'll predict will be about something to do with any random sound made and that will be part of the reward process.

My favorite use has to be the first Castlevania game for the DS (forget its name). You can learn a spell from an enemy which summons a cat to run at your foe, cue the "That poor cat" sound.

I had WAY too much fun flinging cats at zombies, demons and other nasty creatures.

What? It was in games.

Other than that,
In all of its incarnations.
Yeah, I'm kind of a Zelda fanboy

The sound of Batman's boots and/or fists hitting the face of inmates of Arkham City is very satisfying.

Extremely antiquated, but I always got a kick out of the 'thud' that came from something falling off a pyramid in Q*bert. I know there was an active mechanical process inside the cabinet that provided the sound, but the image of this little pixelated creature falling into an apparent bottomless pit only to be met with an actual sound of impact encourages my love of both cartoon schadenfreude fourth wall breaking.

The charge-up and discharge of the tesla coils in C&C:Red Alert. Closely followed by the screams of the infantry caught by them, especially attack dogs.

The hooting owl in Age of Empires II... and, if these count, all the voice commands... "Ooh, Aah, all hail, king of the losers! hahahaha" (9, 7, 8, 11)

The deathblow sound effects are pretty satisfying in Dragon Age Origins... Those decapitations are nasty.

A Zonda going through a tunnel in Forza 4's pretty incredible, ditto in TDU with the windows down.

But surely (if you played it in the mid '90's and were a teenage boy) Lara Croft's soundscape of grunts, sighs, and moans are the defining soundtrack to a game!

Oh, Gouki's triumphant "MESSATSU!" ain't bad, either (especially with the accompanying Super/Ultra Finish 'chime'). Street Fighter IV's SFX are, like the rest of the game, nigh on perfect.

My God, the alert sound from the MGS series will forever be embedded into my memory.

If Rising goes wrong, removing that sound effect would be the most likely reason.

the sound of all three rounds of the M16 hitting their mark in Cod Blops immediately comes to mind. and the DINK! of a headshot.
