I believe the average American to be a human being, and as being a human being, have faults.
But I wouldn't dare stereotype these faults throughout an entire community, let alone an entire country.
Me thinks this thread won't last long once the stereotyping and flame-wars start.
But who knows, people might remain civil and use common-sense, this is The Escapists after all...

Booooring, im gonna go for diversity, east/west coast - almost like europe (arrogant and supriority complex combined with an ability to talk about making the world better but not doing a dam thing),
Interior, lets just say if you are not a gun toting bibal loving creationist beleiving, burger eating nut then you are either
A) about to be chased out of town
B) been caught and about to be subject to some crude/tribal humiliation
C) having followed parts A and B you are now dead

I exaggerate and im looking forward to the anti uk/europe one, i can make derogatory statements there as well

The Simpsons?

It's a bit difficult because only silly and/or famous Americans are shown here on TV.

I feel they are like other english speaking western people, only with different accents and a lot more high fructose corn syrup. Also worse chocolate.

I don't really rely on stereotypes to define people.

For example, my dad is from a small fishing village in the north of England. He said that when he was young, he was told that anyone not from their village was a foreigner, and not to be trusted. And yes that included people from the village two miles down the road.

I don't want to be glaring at other villages! I want to be all global thinking and so forth.

Weird thing for me though. On TV, I can clearly hear the difference between the various American accents, even when they aren't exagerated or anything. In person, all Americans sound the same to me. I've met people from all over the states. I don't understand why my ears have decided they all have the same voice.

Unflinchingly patriotic, hard working and borderline racist.

Well I guess the most stereotypical is the fat, loud, food munching, Southerner being a tourist shouting at Chineese people.

But I know better, and now love you Amerians.
Add gun to those two and you get my vision of an American.

Also, he must get 2 plastical surgeries a year. Or if it's a man, 2 cheeseburgers at McDonalds a day.

Thats because its all a conspiracy, America is actually a small island off the coast of Cornwall consisting of about 50 people and a fantastic cgi studio and a state of the art cosmetics lab. You are the victim of a terrible joke!

Overly nationalistic gun nuts with a narrow view on world politics, bigoted in both Human Rights and religion/religious freedom.
Of course I know this isn't true for everybody but, "all it takes is most of them" as Cartman so aptly said.

I'm going to go with blindly patriotic, overweight, and dependent with a good taste for mediocre culture. But Americans are also stereotypically naive (in a cute way) and good-looking, so I guess it's not all bad.

I ALWAYS SUSPECTED BUT NOW THE TRUTH IS REVEALED ;_______;

I feel so betrayed! All those American friends I've had, all of them have been living a hugely elaborate hundreds of years old lie! My dreams and hopes! Ec cetera!

Strange. In America we think what you described is the mythical land of "England".

The news and tv-programmes we get in my country from america, makes the majority of them look like ignorant, fat, oil-hungry extremist phonies.. That tbh tells me more about the viewers of the tv-programmes, than it does of Americans as a people. It seems that Europeans love to look down on the USA, yet most of our television programmes comes from across the pond. If only the tv-channels would focus on other parts of their culture than Hannah-Montannah and the wars in the middle east.

It's excusable for alot of Europeans to think badly about americans, but I believe that the media more than the people from USA, carries the blame.

I haven't met alot of the cross-pond people in real life, but the few I've met have been polite and outgoing. I can't form an oppinion on the american people based on these few persons, just as I can't get any inkling as to what the general population is like by watching discovery channel.

Oh wow how good and fair these people are. I almost came in my trousers just reading the pure acceptance just oozing out from the screen.

Seriosuly.

Everybody inherits a vast amount of prejudice. It's just bad listening to it.

So:
Americans is mostly overweight uneducated creationalists, not having a clue basic things about the outside world. They are too inbred to speak english and therefore use a mish-mash of launguages where english is the dominant one enabling the outside world to undrstand the meaning of at least every third sentence.
The average American is always afraid of something and let's her/himself get herded by the news to run from the most fresh catastrophe.

Aaaand that's my prejudice.
I am not saying it's reality though.

As you may well know england is about one street, we are all called or know someone called john smith and we pass the queen every day in our stagecoach before sinking our awfully dentisted teeth into tea and scones what what!.... oh and we all wear bowler hats
