Just spent $65 bucks funding four different games: Shadowrun Returns, Wasteland 2, Banner Saga and Valdis Story.

I have been starving for a proper RPG for awhile now and I could definitely use some Castelvania/Mega Man style side-scrolling (Valdis Story).

So what have you guys funded/will fund and why?

And if I dare ask... how much did you send their way?

Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun Returns. Only put in the minimum amount for both, as I'm poor, and I want to see how these Kickstarter things pan out before I lose my mind and go in whole hog on anything.

Hey, Grimrock is out today. But...the playoffs are starting tonight. And I haven't even finished Witcher yet! And the new ME3 MP expansion just came out! NOOOOOOOOOO....

New classes in MP are pretty neat so far ;)

I wouldn't know. Three spectre packs, and all I got was the harpoon gun three times. I hate that thing. It reloads nice and fast and I like the scope, but the firing arc is bizarre, and it seems nigh impossible to get a proper headshot with it...the harpoon hits everything BUT the head.

I funded Wasteland 2, 30$ as soon as I found out that Chris Avellone would (potentially) join the project. I also funded the Banner Saga, which looks quite interesting. That was only 15$ though, as I'm much more interested in the Wasteland artbook, than the Banner Saga one.

Also, I'm looking forward to whenever Obsidian will be setting up their Kickstarter(hopefully soon).

None of them. I wouldn't spend a dime on kickstarters. If a game needs a charity drive, it's probably not a good idea (the developers/publishers won't even back it).

None. I see kickstarter as just another way for developers to make a quick and easy buck. If they want my money then they are going to have to give me something tangible in return not a useless promise.
Kickstarter is like a pre-pre order. Their slogan should be: "Love buying blind? Send your money our way!"

Publishers often won't back anything that doesn't sound like a safe bet to be highly profitable. That doesn't mean it's "not a good idea". There's room for mass market products that are crafted to have the broadest possible appeal, but there also needs to be room for niche products that appeal to specific audiences.

As for "the developers won't back it"...guy, these ARE the developers. This is what developers "backing something" looks like. Developers don't pay for games to happen. They get paid for games to happen.

Exactly, except your buying it before you know anything about the game and there is no chance at all for a refund. I dont understand why people would pay for a game that they dont know how it will look, what the gameplay will be like, story, characters, customization, etc. It just kind of seems stupid.
You know the old saying about a fool and his money.

None. I want to get an idea of what a game will play/look like before I dedicate myself to it.
Captcha: Crash and burn.
How oddly fitting.

Kickstarter? None. I have used Rockethub and Indiegogo though. Especially for this project [http://wwww.indiegogo.com/Special-People-The-Comic?c=home&a=474202], the creator of which I'd hope some people here (particularly LRR fans) would recognize.

And I chipped in for the Extra Credits ones, as well.

The only way I would invest in a games development is if I was being promised a slice of the profits, just the promise of a game itself isn't enough to get me giving a developer my cash (oh hooray, I paid you to make it and now I get to buy it!)

When you fund it you can usually get it for less than half the price with the money you used to fund it. All the games I funded I am getting for no additional cost (I funded what amounts to a fraction of what their retail price will be).

I've funded Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns (omgomgomgomgomgomgomg...), and The Banner Saga.

Shadowrun Returns is getting near the $1,000,000 mark. Once that happens, they plan to include a second location in the game.

..and they may all suck and you never would have spent a penny on them.
