So, i'm looking around for a new laptop right now and was wondering what kinds of computers my fellow Escapists had? Just so that might give me a few ideas for what i want.

i travel around a lot, so i tend to prefer laptops because they're more portable, but what do you all prefer and why?

I have a laptop with crap specs & stats. I once looked them up and they got laughed at, just to give you an idea.
I do travel a lot so it comes in handy, or used to anyway. These days you might as well get an iPad. Although I'd much rather watch movies/shows on a laptop's screen than a phone's. I'm not sure how good it can go game-wise. It'll run old stuff and new-ish games like Star Wars: The Old Republic so it's not entirely obsolete. But I could never fully become a PC gamer like I used to back when I had a desktop machine. So I stick to my PS3 mostly for gaming.

Depends on what I'm doing. I have a pretty old laptop that is useful if I want to do work away from home, which doesn't happen that often so i should probably get rid of it. I tend to use my desktop most of the time as it can run games and it's way easier writing on a keyboard than a tablet. But I also use my phone/tablet when I'm just reading stuff. It depends on how much you like certain systems & what you'll be spending most of your time doing.

I have a 3 year old (getting close to 4) Acer Aspire laptop. I got it back when I was in college and needed something portable, but now it's basically used as a desktop, except when I bring it to friends' houses to game.

i5 3GHz processor
4GB DDR3 ram
AMD Radeon HD 6550M
650GB HDD

The specs aren't amazing, but they've been good enough to play most games on medium or high. In fact I managed to get it to play Bioshock Infinite on high settings at a steady 60 FPS (with a peak of 80 FPS), which I was incredibly impressed by (even though it did heat up like crazy when I did it.

This laptop cost me $650 and I'd say I definitely got my money's worth out of it and then some. The only game I've ever been unable to get a decent framerate out of was Witcher 2. Unfortunately even at the lowest settings it wouldn't go above 20 frames, and averaged 15.
