Be it the story telling, the characters, the graphics, music... ect. traditionally it would be a healthy mix of all, but what is it you mainly look for in a Game?

Fun gameplay, followed by compelling story. Music can put a game over the top (as can graphics) but on its own it doesn't quite work.

I mostly look for gameplay. After that, it depends on the genre of the game. Obviously for RPGs I'll look for a good story, while for FPS games I'll look more for graphics.

The thread title and OP ask entirely different questions. I choose to answer the easier one and not get philosophical.

If I can enjoy myself in some way, I like the game. I'm willing to sacrifice some measure of gameplay for good story and presentation, and vice versa.

Story. I need to be compelled to want to see what happens next and to feel as if I'm actually getting somewhere.

Then characters. Their reactions most often make me go on simply to see what they say.

Gamplay, then graphics and then music. If the rest is good, graphics and music aren't all that hard to ignore.

If I was directing the game with a large amount of resources then I wouldn't let anything be below what I thought was perfect. So to me, everything is the most important. However, I can understand a small company making a game might not have the greatest graphics and so on.

A reasonable story, polished mechanics and interface, fun game play and good looking environments.
